Sketch theme – creating layout as in demo

    Hi there,

I have some questions about the Sketch theme. I’ve attempted to recreate the project/portfolio layout as your demo shows, and have been stymied.

I found the instructions for creating a portfolio and was able to follow them up to the point of creating a static front page, where it says:
” Head to Customize → Static Front page and set “Front page displays” to “A static page”.
Nowhere on any of the Customize selections OR in the Settings selection is an option displayed to set a static front page. I have gone through the links on the admin menu over a half dozen times and cannot find it.
In other themes I’ve been able to find it but for Sketch it just seems invisible. What am I missing?

Along the same line: I would like to set the original front page to be the portfolio page, as it shows in the demo, but it is not available in the Pages section so I can’t figure out how to make it the portfolio page – can you help me with that, too?

And third – for some reason, every font I try out for the headers appears only in all capitals and I do not see an option to change this. This is not what I am looking for for this site, and I have never run into this issue with any other wp site I have worked on. “Help meeeee!”
    Thank you.

  • Hi Wendy,

For the homepage options to appear in the Customizer you need to have at least one public page published. Therefore, you need to either create a new one or make one the three private ones public.

Along the same line: I would like to set the original front page to be the portfolio page, as it shows in the demo, but it is not available in the Pages section so I can’t figure out how to make it the portfolio page – can you help me with that, too?

You need to create a new page, set it as a static front page and then use the portfolio shortcode to display your projects.

    Portfolio Shortcode

And third – for some reason, every font I try out for the headers appears only in all capitals and I do not see an option to change this. This is not what I am looking for for this site, and I have never run into this issue with any other wp site I have worked on. “Help meeeee!”

This is the way this theme is designed. All titles are set to capitals no matter the font used.

Thanks very much for your answers.

I thought I had already restored the site to public; no wonder I was mystified.

Is there a place where I can find out all of the details about a theme? I do not recall seeing the detail about capitalization in the documentation I read.

  • You’re welcome!

You can find all the detail’s in the theme’s info page:

    https://wordpress.com/theme/sketch

You can always play around with the demo prior to activating it to your site just to get an idea of how it works and if it fits your needs.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
