Hi Joan,
The Sketch theme uses a Portfolio page template to create the look you see on the front page of the Sketch demo site. The Sketch theme page has details about setting up that page and other theme-specific features, but I can also walk you through that process here. :)
The first thing you’ll need to do is create a page using that Portfolio page template, and set it as the front page of your site. Here are the steps for that:
- Create or edit a page, and assign it the Portfolio Page Template from the Page Attributes module in the editor.
- Go to Settings → Reading in your site’s dashboard and set “Front page displays” to “A static page.”
- Select the page you just assigned the Portfolio Page Template to as “Front page” and set another page as the “Posts page” to display your blog posts.
Then, you can set up featured content for your site — that featured content is what appears in the large image slider at the top of the page. Here’s how to do that:
- Open your site’s customizer under Appearance → Customize in the dashboard, and head to the Featured Content section.
- Enter the name of a tag.
- Click the “Save” button in the customizer.
- Create a post, page, or portfolio item with a Featured Image that’s at least 1092 pixels wide.
- Give the post the tag you set up in the customizer’s Featured Content section.
Any posts with that featured tag and a large enough featured image will appear at the top of the page.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Rachel, This is great thank you I know have a large image : )
Now I was wondering how I can show a few posts below the large image? is this possible? -
The Sketch theme is designed to show your portfolio projects underneath there (rather than blog posts), so you’d need to add portfolio projects to have them appear the same way you see on the demo site. However, you could use the Display Posts Shortcode to show a list of your recent posts, instead.
You can add the shortcode to the page you set up as the front page of your site (pasting the shortcode right into the page editor). For example, using this shortcode will display a list of your most recent posts along with medium-sized featured images:

You are very clever thanks : )
The only think is this isn’t very neat.
I had actually bought the zuki theme but can’t get it working so was wondering if the same applies to make the main image appear and if the zuki theme would show posts under the main image.
I hope you don’t mind me asking so many questions.

Hi Joan,
You’re welcome to ask all the questions you have! That’s why I’m here. :)
The Zuki theme has a handful of options for setting up your front page. It actually uses Widgets to determine what appears on your front page.
You can control the widget in your site’s customizer (under Appearance > Customize in the dashboard), in the Widgets section. There, you can add widgets to each of the “Front Page” areas to make them appear there. Depending on which Recent Posts widgets you choose, you can display your posts in different ways on the front page.
If you’d like, you can also get help with the Zuki theme directly from the theme’s author by posting in the Zuki support forum. :)

Thank you Rachel,
: )I like how easy you make things so I would like to stay with you for now if that’s OK?
It’s all starting to look a bit better.
Can you let me know if there is a was I can change the large front slider to a small depth as it defaults to the largest image which is huge?
JOan : -
Hi Joan,
The Zuki theme is designed so that front slider will take up 100% of the available width for content on the page. That means images will be sized according to that width, rather than according to a specific slider height.
One way to control the size of the slider is to make the featured image on each post much wider than it is tall. That way, the slider will adjust to that image size/ratio. :)

Oh! you are so good I know what i am looking for but finding it hard : (
So that I can maybe check more things out myself is there an easy way for me finding the links to the authors of other themes? like you already sent me?
If you’d like, you can also get help with the Zuki theme directly from the theme’s author by posting in the Zuki support forum. :)also can i get these for free themes like the fontfolio?
-
When you are looking at a theme page like the Zuki theme page, you can find the theme author listed near the bottom of the sidebar on the right. Premium themes all have their own support forums — to get there, you can click the “Support” button in the top right on the theme page and then follow the link to the forum in the sidebar there.
Free themes like Fontfolio don’t have dedicated support forums, but you’re welcome to get in touch here or post in the WordPress.com Themes forum where you can get tips from other users or staff.
