Sketch theme help with portfolio, if you can?
-
Hi.
I’m using the sketch theme and want the portfolio to be my front page, – but I can’t find out how to change the order of how the portfolio-pieces appear.
They’re appearing in order of creation, which makes planning VERY importaint.
Is there a way to work around this and switch the order of how they appear on the site?thanks! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Yes. To rearrange the order in which they appear, simply change the publish dates and/or times of the projects.
-
It would probably be best to leave a gap of several hours between publish dates, while revising the dates/times, and have not many (1-3 perhaps) published on the same date.
-
It would probably be best…
I mention this because there have been cases where the order gets confused for multiple posts or projects published on the same date, if the publish times are too close together. I don’t know what the minimum time difference is to ensure that they don’t become confused. To avoid the possibility of such an error completely just give each project a different publish date.

I have the same problem – using the Harmonic theme – how do I alter the publish date of a project?
-
Regardless of the theme activated, take the following steps:
1. At My Sites > Site > click the Portfolio menu item to display the projects.
2. Select a project for editing and click on the three-bar toggle menu to display the edit options.
3. Click “Edit” to enter the project editor.
4. Find the calendar icon at the right of the Update button, and click on it to display the calendar and time. Change the publish date and time, as desired.
5. When you’ve completed the edits, click update.
That’s it. -
Hi @Musicdoc1
Thank you so much for answering! :)Your suggestion makes sense – but then it will always be this way:
the one you edit/choose a new publish date on, will end up as the first entry on the site.. right?..Sketch Theme can have 9 portfolios per page, and if we say that the first entry is at the bottom and entry 9 is at the top, then if I update/change portfolio number 3.. it will end up taking number 9’s spot.. yes? (and 9 will become 8).
So if I want to keep entry number 3’s position, I would then ALSO have to alter the publish date for the remaining 6 entries at a later time than nr.3’s?
Is this understood correctly?
..it would really be so much easier if you could just drag and drop them in order.. is there no way to do that/similiar work-around?thanks again!!! :)

No, because you can alter the date and time both forward and backward. You may make any of the 9 projects the most recently published (and first displayed from top left), or the earliest published (and last displayed at bottom right). In any case, you may have to alter the dates and or times of many of the projects to obtain the order that you want.
Also, if you publish additional projects and want them to appear down at the bottom of the page with the portfolio page template assigned in chronological order, then their publish dates/times will have to be altered as well.
An alternative, which might be easier to manage, would be to use customized portfolio shortcode inserted in static page with a different template (default, for example). See the Portfolio Shortcode support page. You can use the “order” attribute (“order=DESC”) to reverse the default order in which the projects are displayed.
