Sketch Theme Portfolio/Gallery HELP!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been busy programming my blog using the Sketch theme and whilst I figured out how to display 3 columes on my static portfolio page, now I can’t seem to get it to display 4! I’ve changed the shortcode from 3 to 4, but nothing happens. Can someone tell me where I’m going wrong?

Also, I’ve just created a gallery sub menu to display my photos/posts as per their category…At the moment I’ve done it with the blog posts but is there anyway of making the posts look like the portfolio page? In columes? Or do I have to go through ALL my posts and convert them into projects so that I can display them like that? What I want are similar pages to the portfolio template but arranged into galleries per photo type. Can someone advise me, please?

    Thank you!!!!

    Hi there,

I’ve changed the shortcode from 3 to 4, but nothing happens. Can someone tell me where I’m going wrong?

When you’re using the Sketch theme Portfolio Page Template, that template puts your portfolio items on the page in a three-column layout, like on the theme demo:

    http://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/

That template is a specific layout that’s built in to the Sketch theme, and it’s different from what you get by using the portfolio shortcode on a regular page. (With the shortcode on a regular page not using the portfolio page template, you can adjust the columns and other settings for how the portfolio items are displayed.)

Also, I’ve just created a gallery sub menu to display my photos/posts as per their category…At the moment I’ve done it with the blog posts but is there anyway of making the posts look like the portfolio page? In columes?

No, the Sketch theme displays blog posts in a different layout from portfolios. You can see how the blog page looks in the theme demo here:

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I am going to add my question here because I haven’t received any replies where I posted mine and my question is very similar. I am also using the Sketch theme and having a problem getting specific project types / tags to work with the shortcode so that specific projects will display on one portfolio page. The problem is I have my home page set to the portfolio page and all the projects keep showing up there. I created another page using the shortcode to display only a specific project type on that page but the shortcode still isn’t working – it also showed all of the projects. Then I came to this response so applying the responses above, I tried reverting my home page back to the default template (not the portfolio page template offered in the Sketch theme and then using the shortcode to make the home page show only the projects I want to show, so I can show the other projects on another porfolio page but it still is just showing all the posts on both the home page and the additional portfolio page I created – still the shortcode did nothing – the home page didn’t change but continued to show all posts. I’ve used the shortcodes in other themes and had no trouble doing this. Is it possible the shortcode doesn’t work in Sketch? I could add link to those pages in my menu separately but then I can’t have the slider on the home page. I thought the whole point of choosing a portfolio theme was to be able to create portfolio projects and display content in a that way but if the shortcodes don’t work in a theme then what is the point? I just want to know how to split the projects into multiple portfolio pages – if the theme’s portfolio page template doesn’t work with the shortcodes then how come it still isn’t working when I change the template so that it is not the portfolio page template? And if they don’t work, is there any other way to split the projects without having to change my home page to the default template? There has to be some way to split them. Even if I don’t use the template, the shortcode still definitely isn’t working… Here’s the link to my site btw: http://snappingtwig.com Any help would be really appreciated.
