Sketch Theme – problem with banners

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

It seems that I have a problem with the front (home) page of my website (named “Portfolio”). The banner disappears every time I use the Portfolio Page template. However, it looks ok if I use the other two templates (Default or Full Width). How can I fix this? Thank you in advance for your reply.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have the same problem. The banner disappears if I use Portfolio page template. If I use the shortcode it just doesn’t look the same as shop4lesssxm.wordpress.com/portfolio. Please help!

Hi Joycewathey, I see the banner on your page (shop4lesssxm.wordpress.com/portfolio)… Everything looks ok. What did you do? What browser do you use?

    Hello Dashawagner,

    http://www.shop4lesssxm.wordpress.com looks different than http://www.shop4lesssxm.wordpress.com/portfolio

I did this by using [portfolio] shortcode into the front page. More information on how to do that can be found here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/portfolio-shortcode/

When I used Portfolio Page template I lose the banner so I had to use the shortcode instead but it just doesn’t look right. The font and the spacing of the images.

I guess alternatively we could just link the portfolio page as the homepage. I hope someone will reply us about this template.

Somehow everything started working! I just used the portfolio page template as my front page and I disabled likes and sharing and it looks great!

I tried using the shortcode – now I have two portfolios displayed on the same page :( All I need is a header (banner) display code… However, I have no idea where to find it.

Howdy! Thanks for bringing this to our attention; we’ll take a look at it and get back to you in this thread!

dashawagner, just try what you did the first time. For some reason it worked. I’m not sure why it didn’t work the first time.

Make sure you have one page for blogs and a separate page for your home page using portfolio template. Then set it using your customizer. Follow along here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/

    Thank you joycewathey!
So, here is what I’ve already tried , and what doesn’t work:

    1) Using the shortcode [portfolio]
    2) Viewing website in different browsers
    3) Cleaning up cash and cookies
    4) Changing themes (I hoped this will reset settings).
    5) Replacing the front page (by choosing a different page as a home page using the Portfolio template).

It seems that the banner is somewhere there, but it just doesn’t load properly… The page http://dmdesigncollection.wordpress.com/portfolio/ loads ok. So, I guess the problem is not with the Portfolio template itself… The issue is with my front page loading that Portfolio template. Hope WordPress staff will help me to figure it out.

    Thanks again for your support!

Every time I use any shortcodes on my home page, it looks like they load instead of the banner (header). That’s why I get the effect of two different portfolios on the same page… Hope this will help.

Hi, I’m trying to replicate this, but having problems. Do you still see the issue? And just so I’m sure, when you say “banner”, you mean the Custom Header, right?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi, Kirkwight,

    1. Yes, I still have a problem with my front page (I’ve checked it in two different browsers and two different computers).

    2. Yes, I mean the Custom Header.

Let me know if you want me to change any settings… Thank you so much for your help!

Ah, figured it out – you’re good now.

The theme puts either the Custom Header OR the featured content on the front page. You had a tag set for Featured Content (“new”), but it needs at least two posts to kick in. Removing the “new” tag from Featured Content brought back the Custom Header on the front page.

Awesome!!! Thank you, Kirkwight! Please tell your management team that we (customers) think you are the best!
