Slide show javascript error
-
All of a sudden, the slide show on the front page of my website isn’t displaying and an error message displays instead: “This slideshow requires Javascript.” http://www.sacredheartwinchester.org
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Please enable Javascript in your browser. Once you enable it, it will work as seen in the screenshot below:
In Safari, to enable Javascript, go to Safari > Preferences and then go to the Security tab. Check off Enable Javascript. Then, open up a new browser window.
It will work then!
Cheers!

Thanks, but it’s not just my (seven) computers and three tablets. It’s any browser – Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer on any of the machines I tested including several client computers. All of my machines have Javascript enabled and none can display the slideshow in any browser either Mac or PC. It has been on the site for more than a year and worked fine until the weekend.
However, when I am signed in to my account, I can see it working.

By the way, I also deleted the page and recreated it and the gallery but had no luck getting rid of the error.

Hi there,
After testing the slideshow on numerous browsers, I found that it is working on Google Chrome and Safari. Since I am able to view it, it’s most likely a browser issue. Please make sure your browsers are up to date:
There seems to be an issue with Mozilla Firefox (Version 27) and I have reported this back to our team. Once I hear back I will let you know as soon as possible.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

This is getting frustrating. Before contacting you, I checked all the WordPress.com forums and updated all the browsers on all the machines and tablets on which I was testing the site. I’m running Safari 7.01 on all the Macs, including my two-week old, newly updated iMac, and the latest version of Internet Explorer 8 on all PCs. It is unlikely that all of the machines and tablets would have outdated browsers, right? Yet I can’t run the slideshow on any of the machines in either our shop or our client’s office – including phones or tablets. It does not seem to be a browser issue but a coding problem in either the template (I contacted the provider) or in updating WordPress.com has recently done. Would you please continue to look into this for me? My client is getting upset that I have not solved this yet and you continue to give me the same answer that seems unlikely to provide any solution. I repeat ALL THE BROWSERS ARE UPDATED AND HAVE JAVASCRIPT ENABLED yet they still cannot run the slideshow. It must be something else.
-
At this point, I cannot reproduce the entire issue you are having because it is working on Google Chrome and Safari for me – also on multiple computers. I only found an issue on Mozilla Firefox.
I have reported this to our team and our developers are looking into it. I’ll let you know what they say.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have a timeframe for when it will be addressed? I really need to fix this problem. It has worked for more than a year and just stopped working a few days ago.
The response I got from the developer of the template Modern News that I used indicates that they acknowledge that it is an issue and that it is something WordPress.com needs to fix:
There really is nothing we can do at Studiopress to help. All support for wordpress.COM themes need to be posted in their premium support forum here:
http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/
Having said that – the team that works on the themes we sell through WordPress.com are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

Hi there,
I have an update. My team looked into it and found that it’s an issue when you are logged out of WordPress.com – regardless of browser (sorry about that).
I’m not actually sure when it will be fixed, but please note it is being worked on as we speak. I will check in with another update as soon as possible.
Thanks

It’s been several weeks and I haven’t heard anything. Is anyone working on this? If not, is there a workaround? The slideshow is on the front page of the website and looks terrible right now.
-
Hi there,
I’m so sorry for the delay. We have notified our Premium Theme partners for Modern-News and they are aware of the situation. We are still waiting for a fix.
I’ll let you know once we hear back.

I have run out of patience and I need to be referred to someone who will help. You clearly aren’t reading my posts. As I told you on February 5th, I already contacted the developers of the Modern News theme and they sent me back to you. They said once they sell a theme to WordPress, WordPress is responsible for providing tech support. I even pasted their response into a post on February 6th. In your last post on February 6th, you said you had referred it to “developers” and they were working on it as you typed. Now you are giving me a very different story.
I’m sorry but you have been absolutely no help and have sent me in circles. I pay for tech support as well as hosting. Would you please kick this up a level? The blog is has not been working for three weeks and you haven’t helped one small bit. Is there a supervisor I can deal with? I have been patient but now I need action.

Hi there,
I have responded to your privately regarding this matter. Please check your email. :)

This issue has been corrected. It was a tricky one, thanks for your patience!

Kirk
