Slider from Sketch theme does not appear

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to set up a slider on my blog https://hajatianafara.wordpress.com/
    But the slider doesn’t appear.

I am using the Sketch theme.
I have created a page named “Portfolio” with the “portfolio page template”. And I have set my portfolio as the site’s front page.

I have created projects with “Featured images” with the tag “slider”
The 2 featured images are more than 1272 pixels wide.

I have entered the tag “slider” in Appearance → Customize → Featured Content.

    But no slider appears.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! I just took a look at your site and it looks like you have everything set up correctly for the slider.

After digging a little deeper, I saw that you had one Portfolio project tagged with “slider.” Because there was only one item tagged “slider,” it looks like that didn’t trigger the minimum number of posts/portfolio projects for the Sketch theme. I just tagged one more portfolio project as a test with the “slider” tag and it appears to be showing for me now. Can you try refreshing your site and letting me know if you see that as well?

For any other portfolio projects you add to your slider, just be sure to type in “slider” in the Tags section, rather than the Project Tags section and you should be all set :)

Thanks very much! I see the slider as well!

However I do not know the difference between the Tags section and the Project tags section. Where is the Tag section I should update?

  • Hey there,

I hope you don’t mind me jumping in to help.

You can see the list of your projects here. Notice how there are Tags and Project Tags there? They’re separate.

    Here’s a screenshot:

You can see Tags are at the top, and Project Tags are below. You will want to put “slider” or “diaporama” in the top box, not in the bottom one. You can use the bottom one to organize the projects themselves. I hope that helps!

    Haha! thanks for your answer.
Evarlese realized the basic confusion from my side.

When the dashboard is in French:
    >> Tag = “Mots-clés”
    >> Project Tags = “Tags de Projet”

    Thanks again!

  • No problem. Cheers :)

    Hello,

I finally got the slider working in Sketch after some trial and error. Right now I just have two projects in the slider. These same projects are repeated below the slider. I don’t want the projects featured in the slider to be repeated on the same page. How do I remove them from below the slider?

    My website is: http://www.ellenscobie.com

    Many thanks for any tips!!

  • Hi @ellenscobie, it’s harder to see what’s going on since your site isn’t hosted here, but I can say Sketch shows the latest projects below its slider. So there are various ways to work around this, like:

    – Feature items that aren’t the latest, or change the date on the items in the featured slider

    – Use posts or pages for the featured items, instead of using portfolio projects

    – Create a child theme that “skips” any portfolio items that have the featured tag (this is technical and not something we can assist with as WordPress.com support, but there are videos and resources or contractors that could assist.)

Anyway there are a few ways to go about it. If you need more help, please check out the forums for WordPress.org installations here: wordpress.org/support
