Slider on the boradsheet theme
-
Hi everyone, I am having difficulty setting up a Home page slider with the Broadsheet theme. I have chosen a category and featured images for four chosen posts, but there must be another step that I am missing as the slider is not appearing. Thanks for any guidance, Annette
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Apologies for the spelling error in the title. It should of course read Slider on the Broadsheet them.

The Broadsheet support page says
The Homepage Image Slider is generated from a category specified in the Customizer options (in the Theme section).
However, at the Customize preview I found that you’re told to choose a featured “tag.” It’s not clear whether both post categories and tags are allowed to serve the featured tag, but I would try each separately to see if I got different results.

Thanks for your reply. It seems very unclear. The featured tag works to get the four featured posts across the top of the home page in the featured content area, but I still don’t see how to get the slider to operate.

You’re welcome.
The featured tag works to get the four featured posts across the top of the home page in the featured content area
I hadn’t noticed previously that there were two separate ways to feature posts.
The “Featured Content” part of the Customizer evidently deals only with the row of up to four posts below the header and navigation menu.Easily feature all posts with the “featured” tag or a tag of your choice. Your theme supports up to 4 posts in its featured content area.
The slider, on the other hand, appears to be governed by options found under the “Theme” tab, that appears further down in the Customizer.
The options that appear here in the preview are far from clear:
* Featured Category Amount — the choices are from 0 (Hide) to 6.
* Homepage Slider Category — the choices are no category (hide), all categories, and uncategorized.
I’m guessing that those having paid for the theme might see something elso, because otherwise I’m having trouble making sense of this. If you can choose a single category here, then presumably it is the posts which you add that category to, up to six of them (the demo has six) which will display in the slider. One possible catch might be that your feature content tag (for the four posts) and your featured content category (for the slider) can not be the same. I noticed that your featured content tag is apparently “Malaysia,” but you also have Malaysia as a category in all four of the featured content posts.

Now, as I revisit this, it appears to me that the category options under theme in the Customizer may only govern how many categories appear over the slider images. I don’t see how these settings might affect whether a slider appears or not.
Seeing as I am presently stumped, I will tag the topic for Staff attention, deftly knocking the ball into their court.

There is one more step. The homepage slider actually appears on the page where your blog posts are published. So the slider is working, it just shows up on this page:

Hi again, lizthefair. Could you tell me why just four images are showing in the slider when there is normally an option for six. Also, I have chosen six for the featured category amount in the cutomizer, but only four categories are showing in the right-hand sidebar. How is the choice of those categories in the sidebar governed? Many thanks again, Annette
-
Also, lizthefair, the “Edit This” button at the bottom of posts doesn’t seem to be working very well on this theme, which is pretty problematic for me. Best and thanks, Annette

Apologies, lizthefair, the “Edit This” button is OK now. That was perhaps just a temporary bug.

I have found out why there were only four images on the slider. I had neglected to choose a featured image for a couple of the articles!

It sounds like you’ve worked everything out on your own, but if you need anything else, let me know!
