Slider, Twenty Fourteen Theme at WordPress.com
-
I am about to make a new site on WordPress.com and I use the new Twenty Fourteen theme. I want to have the slider on my site instead of the grid, but I would really like to have a slide that changes posts automatically, not by the reader pressing the buttons. Anyone who knows how do it? Is it possible?
Also I would like to have a smaller slider than the default one, and some of the text in the post showing in the slider. Is that even possible?
At the moment I do not consider to upgrade to the premium version. Grateful for any suggestions. -

Go to > Dashbaord > Appearance and click the Customize link
Then click the Featured content link —-> far right hand column
The page opens and you see this:
Use a tag to feature your posts. If no posts match the tag, sticky posts will be displayed instead.

It’s a dropdown

Thank you for replying. I have done that. What I am wondering about now is this:
I would really like to have a slide that changes posts automatically, not by the reader pressing the buttons. Anyone who knows how do it? Is it possible?

Unless the theme designer designed the featured post slider to auto-advance it won’t and you can’t make it do so.
Auto-advancing sliders can’t be added to an existing WordPress.com theme that doesn’t already include that feature, either through the Custom Design upgrade or in any other way.
These are themes that have featured posts image sliders http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/ In most of the themes with featured post sliders, visitors have to click to advance the slider to the next featured post.
Some themes have a featured post slider that automatically advances: Debut, Currents, Linen, On Demand, Modularity Lite. (the first 4 are premium themes) and the last one is a free theme. Sight is also a free theme with an auto-advancing post slider.

I see, thank you so much for all your help.
Guess I will end up with the grid or no feature posts as I really like the theme.
Thanks again :) -
What is the widget in Twelve Fourteen that apperas on the right in Twelve Fourteen Demo site? (http://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/) It seems to display most recent (?) posts by type (Video, Image etc.).
I can’t seem to find the widget that would do just that in the Widget section.
Any help?

Hi, I would like to make the slider of featured posts smaller. Is that possible? The slider is at http://www.prudentmummy.com
Thank you very much in advance.

@flutegrin
That’s not a free hosted WordPress.com blog and we do not provide support for it here. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and you are posting to the wrong support forum.WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

@kbullowski
It looks like a text widget to me. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/ -
It may look like it, but I don’t think it’s this one.
First, a Text Widget does not let you put an image beside the title.
Secondly, it does not have an option to display posts from of a given type.So I think that’s not the case. Any other ideas?

You can use the custom solution posted on the following thread to change slider slide automatically.

Thanks
