Slideshow

My idea is to add the ability to display a Slideshow (without advertisements) in both a post and a page.
Flickr has a nice one as do many other web hosters. You can display Flickr video, so I don’t see this as too much of a leap.
Thanks for listening.
Yes, I’m aware of Rockyou and the other one (slider?.net)

Well, of course you can do this already. Have you done a search of the FAQs for slideshows?
-
Yes, exstensively. Could you please point me to FAQ that will show a slideshow in a “page” that doesn’t provide advertisements or a link back button for the site providing the slidewshow.
Flickr would be an example, but all my searching of the FAQs indicate, using a Flickr slideshow is not currently an option.
Thanks.

Lo and behold what? I’ve read all of those posts (with the exception to the one re: picassa). None of these provide a solution to display a slideshow on a page that doesn’t come with gaudy advertising. Is this your way of saying it’s not possible?
One of the primary factors influencing my decision to choose WordPress.com was it lean/clean look.
It’s not a make or break thing but I was just wondering if there was anyway to display an elegant slideshow on a page WITHOUT GAUDY ADVERTISING or link back buttons?
Again, Flickr has a very nice slideshow with almost zero advertising or link back buttons but it is my understanding that it can’t be done.
Thanks.

I’d concur with alwaysome, Wp’s choice of these external widget providers is really poor, I would never bother using these if there is a native work around. Adding more than four pictures to a single post mostly warrants a slide show or better viewing experience. A simple flash picture viewer would do (something like what Yahoo email provides for attached pictures).
-
Yes, I support your contention. An in-built slide show viewer would be great. Hope the experts at WP are listening.

Yes, please. The available slideshows are not an option for me. They look extremely unprofessional.
I recently asked slide.com if they would consider offering an ad-free slideshow for a small fee. In return I got a very enthusiastic and polite ‘no’ that offered a way to turn off the pop-ups that ask viewers if they want to rate your photos.
Slide.com does, however, have a way to create slideshows from Flickr accounts. For what that’s worth. *sigh*

I too would love a clean way of showing flickr slideshows. I agree with alwaysone. All this gaudy advertising is awful

Hello, I have used VodPod bookmarklet for Firefox here: http://vodpod.com/wordpress to embed a Flickr slideswow in my blog on wp and works. You can see it here: http://butindaro.wordpress.com/2008/09/06/foto-india-violenze-anti-cristiane-in-orissa/ Copy the code of the slideshow and paste it on vodpod page.

butindaro, it’s a firefox extension that doesn’t work with firefox 3, the most recent version of firefox. On the flickr site, they said quite a long time ago, here that:
“– WordPress: We’re working with the WordPress team to allow their users to embed our slideshow in WordPress blogs. For now, Jude’s found this workaround:
faq.wordpress.com/2008/05/26/using-vodpod-to-embed-video/”
and the workaround doesn’t work. :(
It would be nice to know that they ARE working on it, but there hasn’t been any improvement since this was posted 6 weeks ago :(
Anything new on the wordpress.com side? -
Hello WP team,
Concluding from the posts above, it would be very nice if there were the possibility to embed flickr slideshows using shortcodes similar to the one you offer for flickr videos:
[flickr video=http://www.flickr.com/photos/john/2431720072/]
How about
[flickr show=http://www.flickr.com/photos/username/tags/foo/]
or
[flickr show=http://www.flickr.com/photos/username/sets/12345678901234567/]
?
Many thanks!

A short code for Flickr slideshows is the way to go. Tobesch is right: if there’s a shortcode for Flickr video, why not for slideshows?
(The VodPod solution works but required an additional account and more key strokes.)
