Slideshow and Paragraph spacing
-
Hi,
I have two ‘issues’. My slideshows aren’t showing on mobile phones, just via computers. I’m not sure if they are showing on Android, but definitely are not working on iphones.
The other issue – I am not fond at all of the spacing when I press the enter button. Is there a way to fix that like I can in Microsoft Word or am I just stuck with it? If I’m trying to make a bullet point list, it looks weird because of the spacing. Any help with these issues would be wonderful!
Thanks,
Lauren

If you are copying and pasting from Microsoft WORD or any document created in a word processing program, but failing to do that in the correct manner (see below) the results may not have been immediately apparent but will be cumulative and will manifest over time.
Microsoft Word is a word processing program https://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/ that’s not compliant with web standards. The result of copy and pasting from Microsoft Word into the Tiny MCE editor in WordPress blogs can be unexpected, and contain a lot of formatting code that’s not compliant unless you know how to use the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
Go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”I recommend using Windows Live Writer for posting to your blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/
See also https://en.support.wordpress.com/word-web-app/
If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages in a wordpress.COM blog see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advanced-html/ Specifically see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/advanced-html/#extra-line-breaks
You can also use the pre tag. See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/can-i-get-rid-of-double-word-spacing?replies=21#post-2512371
If you use the classic editor here Dashboard > Posts > Add New to create your posts what I provide below may be helpful.
In the classic editor, if you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph. If you are working in the Text or HTML editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.
Whether or not you are copying and pasting go to > Dashboard > Settings > Writing and enable this setting:
Formatting
__ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”IMPORTANT NOTE: When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

Hi there,
Your slideshow is working for me on both the stock Android browser and on Chrome, but slideshows require JavaScript which many mobile browsers have disabled by default. Please make sure your browser has JavaScript enabled, then the slideshows should work.
However, the slideshows can also fail to load if your data connection is not strong enough, especially as the posts are already very image-heavy, meaning the browser has to download a lot of information and could be timing out before the slideshow finishes loading.
As for pressing Enter, as @timethief already explained above copying from a program like Word can have unexpected results. That’s because word processors and web pages use two completely different coding languages, and something that’s easy to do in one can be quite hard in the other. Our editor is designed to make the writing experience as similar to using a word processor as possible, but always keep in mind the two are not the same.
The way our editor works, pressing Enter creates a new paragraph in the HTML of the site that you can’t see. If you don’t want that to happen you need to hold Shift while pressing Enter which creates a line break instead while staying in the same paragraph. You can see the advanced HTML doc @timethief linked to for some more info on this.
