slideshow gallery issue background colour
-
Hi there,
I’m returning to wordpress.com after a couple of years as it seems the slideshows that used the [slideshow] shortcode on this site have stopped working. I’ve been getting up to speed and I have worked out that I think this is because it should be the [gallery] shortcodes now.
I used a workaround to remove the black background for the image carousel, but this doesn’t seem to work with the new [gallery] shortcodes either. Has wordpress.com changed the types of html that it’s okay to use in the posts? As I don’t understand why this doesn’t work anymore.
[slideshow] <p style="width: 100%; height: 465px; margin-top: -475px; color: #f7f3ee; background-color: #f7f3ee; border: 1px solid #HEXB; position: relative; z-index: 1;">-</p>I’m aware that this would be really easy with the css wordpress.com upgrade.
But for the purposes of this question, please can you let me know either by saying it’s pointless trying as this type of code is no longer permitted or why it doesn’t work anymore, or if there is a different workaround possible?
Many thanks in advance

For Image Gallery Carousel see here > Settings > Media
Background color
http://theoldpostofficestogumber.com/wp-admin/options-media.phpThere is no workaround for slideshows. You need to purchase a custom design upgrade to change the background color on the slideshows. For details see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

Thanks timethief, I’m aware that this is possible with the custom design.
I can confirm that this workaround used to work 100% fine until recently however, which made any background colour possible not just black and white. I had just wondered what had changed – perhaps someone else can advise, but no matter if not.
Incidentally, the > Settings > Media
Background color does not have any effect when it’s changed to white. Still displayed black background for slideshows. -
The problem with using inline CSS is that when Staff make changes it no longer works. That’s why using it is not recommend.

Hi timethief,
I don’t quite understand what you mean by “when staff make changes” – to wordpress.com as a whole? Or do you mean that some types of inline css are no longer supported?
The
Image Gallery Carousel (not slideshows) see here > Settings > Media
Background colorSettings do not work. When it’s changed to white, the image carousel remains black. See on this page with the new image carousel:

Hi there,
We have indeed discontinued support for most types of inline CSS, so the types of changes which you are looking to make will not work, I’m afraid.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience!
