Slideshow – Images from Media Library not displaying as Gallery

    Trying to make my first slideshow – I am using photos that I already have in my Media Library. They were previously posted across several posts and I want to amalgamate them as a slideshow…
    I’ve added all of them into a new post, then I’ve added a Title and Saved as a Draft (per Support: Gallery Instructions) but the photos don’t show up as a Gallery for me to turn into a Slideshow. I can’t see the answer to this problem in the Support/Forums. Can you help, please?

    You can only attach images to one post (and, consequently, one gallery) at a time. If you’d like the images to appear in a later post’s gallery, you will need to re-upload them for the new post in question.

    Thanks for the reply :-)
    I did upload them to a new post,(saved as a Draft) but from the media library not from my computer.
    Do I understand you to mean that I have to upload them from my computer to get them to appear in a Gallery?
    Is there no way of doing that with images already in the Media Library?

    If they have already been attached to another post, you would need to upload the images again from your computer. A good rule of thumb is that if they are used in a Gallery on another post, you’ll need to upload again.

    If the images have never been attached to another post, you can attach them by going into the Media Library and sorting using the “Unattached” link at the top of the table. You can then attach the images to a post by name if you want.

    Well, if I have to – I have to!
    Seems an extraordinary waste of space, though, when the images are already there. (Not to mention time)
    Perhaps a future, more elegant solution will be forthcoming from WordPress?

    A more elegant solution is already available. To add the images attached to post A as a gallery in post B, you get the ID number of post A and write this in post B:

    [gallery id="NUMBER HERE"]

    To find ID number: Posts>Edit, hover over post title, see end of permalink in status bar of browser.
