Slideshow isn't displaying properly
-
When I use the gallery post format and insert a slideshow into a post and publish it, the slideshow is not displaying correctly. On my blog homepage, where the slideshow should be displaying, all that displays is the title of the post. On an initial slideshow I inserted in a post, the slideshow will show up on the blog homepage, but it is adding in additional images from my media library that I didn’t add to the actual slideshow. Both slideshow posts work properly when I am on the actual post page, but for some reason the slideshows will not display correctly on my blog homepage. Please help. I’ve never encountered this problem before working with slideshows and would like to figure out what’s going wrong.

Howdy –
I’ll be happy to take a look at this. On the homepage I see that “Cyber-Attack Prevention Tips for Small Businesses” has a working slide show. Do you also see that?
Can you share the post title for an example of where you’re having trouble?

Hi,
Thanks for answering. The site I actually need help with is obeoresource.wordpress.com. On the homepage you can find two posts entitled “Cyber-Attack Prevention Tips for Small Businesses,” posted May 25th. Both posts are in gallery format, with slideshows of the same images, so essentially the posts should look the same on the homepage. However, as you can see one of the posts doesn’t actually show the slideshow on the homepage, and the other post’s slideshow is adding an extra image of a long table (this image is in my media folder, but is not one that I included as part of the slideshow). When you click on each post individually the slideshows work fine, but I want them to actually work correctly on my homepage. Hopefully you can tell me what’s going wrong and what I can do to fix it. Thanks.

Hi again –
Thank you for these details. I am having a look at the two posts now and will post an update here once I know more.

Hi –
I’ve removed the wooden table image from your slideshow on https://obeoresource.wordpress.com/2017/05/25/cyber-attack-prevention/.
The image was detached from the post via the WP-Admin dashboard > media library > list view > detach.

Hi,
Thank you so much for removing the extra image from my slideshow.
Any ideas on why my other slideshow won’t display on my blog homepage?
Thanks.

Hi,
Initially I created the second identical post with an identical slideshow because my first post with slideshow was adding the additional image and I wanted to try and figure out if there was something I did wrong with the first post and slideshow by trying to recreate it. So yes, I was trying to have two identical posts with identical slideshows, if only to make sure that they could both work correctly and checking to see if maybe I just clicked something wrong when creating the first slideshow.
However, when I tried to make the second post the slideshow wouldn’t display properly on my homepage, which opened up a whole other problem. I was then afraid that the slideshow feature wouldn’t display properly at all in new posts. Initially I hoped it was just perhaps my browser not showing the page correctly and I went through a couple days of deleting the second post, recreating it, and trying to add it to my blog homepage again. Sadly, I still couldn’t get the slideshow to display properly, which is when I contacted you for help.
You were able to fix the problem with my first slideshow adding the extra image, so I realized what went wrong there. However, the second post’s slideshow still wouldn’t display properly. So, I would just like to figure out what’s going on with this particular post and slideshow. Is it not displaying because it is a duplicate?
Just the other day I was able to add a new post with a different slideshow to my blog and it displayed correctly, so at least I know the slideshow feature still works just fine . I’d just like to figure out where I went wrong with this one particular post, so hopefully I can avoid the mistakes in the future.
Thanks.

Thank you for those details :) I appreciate that you took the time to write all of that out.
I think the confusion here is that the home page slideshow is different from the slideshow in the full post and is generated using media attachements. That means you need to upload the images to the post directly, versus using the IDs from another post if you want the slideshow to appear on the home page. Does that help?

Thanks for your answer, it really does help me understand what went wrong. Hopefully, I won’t have this issue again in the future!

You’re welcome :) I hope that helps clarify things. I’m happy to leave this thread open though in case you have more follow up questions about this.
