Slideshow on homepage
-
I’m trying to figure out how to create a small slideshow (of 3-5 photos/images) on my main homepage. I would like them to be links to current posts. The slideshow would go through the set of featured images for featured posts. I was hoping somebody could help me figure out the CSS code I need in order to make the change in my CSS stylesheet.
blog is http://creativebeginning.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you seen these indtructions?
A slideshow will display a set of images attached to a particular post or page. If you upload images using the Add an Image button while editing/creating the post or page, they will be attached automatically. If you upload images directly to the media library from Media -> Add New, you will need to attach them to a post or page before they will appear in a slideshow. http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/

This would only be possible with CSS if you had a static home page rather than one showing your recent posts. However changing this will affect search traffic as fresh content is better in this respect.
-
Timethiet: I read all of that, but i thought that was specific to posts/pages….not homepage
Halluke: What do you mean by static home page. And if I do change it to show a slideshow of my three most recent posts, will that affect traffic in a good or bad way? Do you know how to make such changes in css?
-
If you have a regular blog as your home page, whatever you put on it will move down every time you make a new post. If you make a static page, it’ll stay there. Changing to a static page will seriously, seriously hurt you in terms of SEO, ie traffic.
-
You could put a slideshow in a sticky post. That way it would stay at the top of the postings on the main page till you took it off. It would however NOT link to current posts.

In my experience. Good thing for you I’m still on painkillers, or I’d get you for that pun.

check out http://theletteredcottage.net/ its where i got the idea, if you look at her featured post, it runs through slideshow, but if you scroll down you can see all of her recent posts. did she do a sticky post? She has a popular site so i doubt it affected her traffic much. Anybody know how to do something like this

That is a self-hosted wordpress blog. Apples and oranges.
If you want to do that you have to self-host. Figure $10 to $25 per month total costs (depending on storage and bandwidth requirements). You will also be responsible for all installations, all configurations, all updates, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong or doesn’t work you have to figure it out and fix it.

you can create slideshow on other blog platforms (blogger.com) who allows you to put Javascript code. In case of wordpress.com, you have to upgrade your blog to do this.
-
NO upgrade at WordPress.COM will allow the use of Javascript except perhaps the VIP which starts I think around $ 2,500 a month

@newsilike
What makes you think we have to upgrade? The Modularity Lite theme features a slideshow.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/The only unresolved issue in this thread is whether or not the blogger wishes to use a “stick” post to display a slideshow on the front page of the blog.

I’m using the 2010 theme, new to WordPress, and my header “featured image” is showing up in my slideshow, yuck. Is this just inevitable or can I somehow prevent it from happening?

@secretaryneiya: Hi. In order to answer your question accurately, we need the URL of your blog, starting with http://
