Slideshow setting not working, please help!!

  I am using the Modularity Theme which offers the option for a slideshow on the front page. I have followed all of the directions on the support site on how to adjust my settings to no avail. I am able to make a gallery or slideshow within a post….however no slideshow as the main part of the page as it advertises. There is a huge blank space between the top, and where my posts start. Please help me!!!!
