Slideshow uploading as text link only

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been able to upload my own slideshows from Youtube in the past following WordPress’s instructions but now it wont work for me. Has something changed or am I not doing something correct? I copy the code “http://youtu.be/YDABiHiZ708” and go to “add media”, “from URL”, check “audio, video and other file” and insert it in the URL box. I then add the title below and click”insert into post” and it only creates a text link to the slideshow. Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

You should be able to simply copy and paste the video URL from YouTube onto a separate line in your editor to embed that video into your post. If you’re still having trouble, would you mind sending a long a link to the post you’re having trouble with?

    My Youtube clip

Hi Evarlese, my slideshow page looks like this: http://capricephotography.wordpress.com/slideshows/
I’m trying to add another slideshow in the same style which is on Youtube:

    embed code: <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/YDABiHiZ708″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

    share code: http://youtu.be/YDABiHiZ708
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Howdy,

If you’re trying to embed that video, simply add the following URL on its own line in your post or page editor. There’s no need to use an embed code, or to link the URL.

Thanks chrisrudzki. The problem is it only show it as a text link to the Youtube clip and not as the first slide image as can be seen with the Melbourne Motorshow clip currently in my slideshow page. I used to be able to upload them to show with the clip image but now all I get is a text link. Has something changes to stop me from showing them as clip images or am I doing something wrong? The address for the current clip is this:
    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=445pjepugrA]

    Not sure if this helps.
    Cheers

The video on that page appears to be embedded properly now. Were you able to get this sorted?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, I just hyperlinked the slideshow to the image of the DVD. The one below it is one I did when I first started my blog but I can’t replicate it with other slideshows. Any ideas?

  • Make sure that you aren’t linking the URL. Some browsers do this automatically.

When you add it to your editor, it should be just plain black text. Once published, the embed will display.

Thanks Macmanx, how do I stop it from automatically linking? Do I remove part of the URL address or add brackets or something similar?

  • Just paste in the URL. If your browser is linking it automatically, highlight it and click the button that looks like a broken chain next to the link button.

    Ok, I’ll give it a go. :)

Ok, so that doesn’t work so I went back to the beginning and read WordPress’ “uploading a video” instructions which clearly states just copy and paste the URL address from Youtube to my Blog and it will do the rest and shows an example of how it will come out as a ready to play image yet when I do it, all i get is the URL address written in text!

I have since tried other avenues to go around this problem by upgrading my package to include Videopress and that wont work for me either! I’m trying to upload an MP4 file and nothing happens! These are small 3 minute files and come well within the limitations of maximum size. I’m beginning to think maybe the problem isn’t at my end but at WordPress’ end! I need this problem solved as it’s costing my a lot of down time.
    Any assistance would be appreciated

Okay, I’ve just added the YouTube video from above to your draft test post so you can see how it looks. Can you take a look at the Edit page for “test” and see if you’re able to insert a URL like the one I included?

Regarding VideoPress, can you let me know the date or title of some of the files you uploaded?

Thanks for your assistance, Evarlese, I have successfully uploaded a slideshow as you have described.

As for WordPress, I want to be able to upload them from my computer.
I can create them as: DVD
    HD
    Video CD
    AVI
    PC
or custom which can then be formatted as:AVI compressed or uncompressed
    Flash Video
    MPEG 1
    MPEG 2
    MPEG 4 SP/ASP
    MPEG 4 AVC
    Ogg Theora
    Quicktime
    Windows Media

Which is the best option for WordPress to accept? I tried MPEG 4 but no success unless I wasn’t doing it right.
Thanks again for your help, Evarlese!

VideoPress accepts a variety of different formats. What exactly happens when you try to upload a video in MP4 format? It would be helpful if you could send us a link to any video you’ve uploaded.

Learn more about how to use VideoPress here:

Don’t hesitate to contact us again if you need anymore help. :-)

Nothing happens when I try to upload a video from my computer, it just sits there and contemplates so to speak, so unfortunately, I can’t send you a link to one I have uploaded. I have followed the Videopress instructions but without success.
    I will try again.

Not sure if this shows you what happens but all it does is give me the “crunch bar” and sits on 0% without movement.

Okay, I’ve just updated the link to the YouTube video in that post to remove the [youtube= ]. This means that only the URL for YouTube is displaying – can you take a look and make sure everything is embedded properly? If you want us to go over the difference more between what you were doing before and the change I just made, please let me know.

Your VideoPress video, streetmachineshow, appears to have uploaded properly. It takes a few minutes for the video to fully process, but you can embed it into any of your posts now by using the short code found here.

Hi Evarlese, thanks for that. The third slideshow uploaded, the one following on from the one you uploaded is one I successfully uploaded myself from Youtube following your instructions.

I am yet to successfully upload a slideshow file from my computer using Videopress (I have paid for the upgrade). My correspondence with WordPress staff member Chrisrudzki in this same post explains my dillema. I have created a new draft page in my post titled ” test2- uploading from my compuer” and am trying to upload an MP4 file onto it but without success. I’m not sure how I can send you this file to allow yourself to try and see where I am going wrong. I have also tried it as an Ogg file but to no evale as well.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Evarlese, sorry, I have found the streetmachineshow upload in the Media section of my Blog. Is this where all my uploads will go first and I just retrieve the short code from there and embed it in the page I wish to use it in or did I accidently choose to put it in the Media section?
