Sliding header images

  How do I make my header images sliding vs. “randomized” at the top of my home page?

  I’m setting up this blog with the organization theme for my boss and he wants the three header images to slide on their own without having to refresh the page.

  From what I’ve looked into, it doesn’t seem like this is possible. Am I able to make the images slide with this theme?

  Hi Lauren,

  The Organization theme includes a homepage image gallery that can do something like this. The images won’t slide on their own, but you’ll just have to click an arrow to move from one image to the next — you won’t need to refresh the page.

  Here’s how to set that up:

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Customize → Featured Content
  2. Enter the name of a tag
  3. Click the blue “Save” button at the bottom

  Once a tag name has been saved, posts having this tag will appear in the featured content section. You can specify an image to be displayed with each post by setting a featured image. The suggested size for featured images is 980 pixels wide and 520 pixels high.

  Thanks! I tried setting up a post with a featured image and I added the appropriate tag, but I’m not seeing it show up anywhere. I guess I’m just not sure where the “featured content section” is. Can I not see this section because I set up a static home page?

  Hi Lauren,

  That homepage image gallery will show up in the header area of the home page, replacing your header image there. (It’s meant for the static home page using the home page template, so you have the right setup for it.)

  I checked your posts and it looks like the post you made with the featured tag is currently a draft. Can you try publishing that post to see if the featured image shows up on your home page?

  Thanks for your help, rachelmcr! The post was published, but I changed it back to a draft after the image didn’t show up. I’ll try again and if it still doesn’t work, I’ll follow up with the theme author.

  You’re welcome! I just took a peek at your site and I see the images in those featured posts showing up in the header on your home page here: http://mattellefson.com/

  So it looks like it’s working now, but either I or the theme author are happy to take another look if you need. :)
