Slimming Down the Interface
-
I’m trying to get rid of the date and category text all over my WordPress site. How do I do this? Also, I just want pages that I create to show up in the left nav without all that //archive//, //categories// and //links// crap. Any suggestions?

The sidebar is what controls the archives, categories, links, etc and you can remove the ones you don’t want by going to your blog Admin => Presentation => Sidebar Widgets and then dropping and dragging the ones you don’t want down to the bottom of the page! As for the date and category on your posts, this can be done with the CSS upgrade by telling your stylesheet to hide that information, but not without that upgrade.

What you see in the Benevolence theme sidebar is the default widget arrangement. I just tried to but I could not “remove” the widgets that you refer to – search, categories, archives, links. Perhaps it can be masked with css customization or perhaps not.
Time and date stamps- if you purchase a css customization upgrade and have the skills to undertake the job you may be able to “mask” these so they do not appear on your blog.
However, if you want total control of your blog template then your best bet is to hire a web host and have him or her download a free blog template from http://wordpress.org
Note: wordpress.com and wordpress.org run on different software
