slow loading of site

slow loading , it takes 6 seconds…is this right?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

4.42 seconds is very slow loading.

Your website is faster than 36% of all tested websites.

See the report here for details http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/d3XTgc/http://technologyintheandesconferenceucl.wordpress.com/

These are the ways to reduce page loading time:
    1. Edit posts and insert “the more tag” so only excerpts appear on the fort page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

    2. Reduce the number of posts appearing on the front page here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most _ posts

    3. Reduce the number of images and or media embeds displayed and/or make them smaller.

    4. Reduce the number of widgets in the sidebar and footer areas.

thanks, I ‘ll see if your tips help…but there site is not that loaded (i think) and there is not much I can tinker with. hopefully it will work

Half that load time is the forced redirect to https. If you test the https URL it gets more normal:

    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/eDsax/https://technologyintheandesconferenceucl.wordpress.com/

So the first recommendation is to use and share the https version of the URL (unless you add on a custom domain.)

After that, the next two elements that load slowly are the API calls to Facebook for the sharing button and to Google for the map in your “Location” widget.

You might consider moving the map to only your Contact page and change your sharing buttons to something other than the “official buttons” to help with those two aspects.

Thanks Alex. Sadly, using https:// was not much of an improvement.

Your website is faster than 53% of all tested websites.

    @maskaypacha
If you are not in love with that theme try switching to Expound and report back waht happens after you do that. I am a minimalist. I use it and my site loads faster than between 88% and 93% of all tested websites in multiple tests form multiple locations around the globe.

Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Note that every theme will have a detailed theme description page with set up instructions and a live demo site page that you can consult. Here’s an example:

    https://expounddemo.wordpress.com/
