Small Email Disaster!! Help pls
-
I’m setting up a WordPress on behalf of a client.
I set up the account with a mistyped email. I tried to correct it to the right one.
Note this is my CLIENT’s email, that I don’t have access to. When I asked her to verify the change of email address, she says she has done so. However, the account is still showing the incorrect email address!!Now when I try to amend it to the correct email, it says her email address is already in use and we can’t change things, even though we TRIED to and it hasn’t appeared to work??
I need someone to look at this for me and find out why the wrong email is listed even though I tried to correct it, and take the steps to link it up with the RIGHT email address.
PLEASE HELP this issue has been going on for DAYS.

Hello there,
Many thanks for reaching out.
Note this is my CLIENT’s email, that I don’t have access to. When I asked her to verify the change of email address, she says she has done so. However, the account is still showing the incorrect email address!!
This might indicate that the client already has a WordPress.com account.
Are you able to confirm whether this is the case?
Many thanks in advance.

She does as I understand it.
I’m aiming to get her to delete that account so that I use the email for the correct one. Is this a good idea? Or is there anything your staff can do to make this process easier/less stressful?
-
As I understand it, I won’t be able to use the correct email address for 30 days after she deletes the account. Is there any way to avoid this and just change the email address?
Many thanks for your help. -
Hello, an update: my client has deleted her account and the correct email address should now be available.
What needs to be done? -
^ so you see that above is the account I am having issues with. This is all one person. Any further assistance is massively appreciated.

That is correct; the email address will be blocked for 30 days until the account is purged and the email can be reused.
Deleting an account is not a good idea to release an email you’d like to use immediately.Your client should have received an email after closing the account – she can reply to it and ask for her account to be restored. Once it is, she will need to change the email address to a throw-away one, which would free the desired address. After that is done, she can delete the account (provided she does not want to use it anymore).

Hi there,
This advice has come a little late unfortunately, as the account is now deleted.
I would like to speak to someone who can directly help me with changing this email address to the correct one. I’ve been trying to access LiveChat help, which I should be able to as my client’s account (or one of them anyway) is paid for.
Instructions as to how I can easily use LiveChat would be hugely appreciated.

I have to say this hasn’t been a very positive experience with WordPress, although I understand you are likely inundated with requests for help like this one. I’ve felt stressed and ignored, and with no way of accessing anyone who is able to reassure me and resolve the issue.
I’ve had to deal with this issue entirely independently, which yes, okay, I’ve sort of done, but now I’ve got to wait a month before the problem will be entirely solved (if there’s no means of otherwise doing what I need doing). If I’d been able to access help from the beginning, the problem would have had an easy solution.
I know how I sound and I’m not trying to accuse an individual but more generally complain about how inaccessible WordPress help is. I’m being paid to create a website. I’m not easily confused by technology, but this experience has been baffling and much more complicated than I convey with my initial description of the issue. I can’t even get through to anyone to properly explain the problem.
Ugh.

If the account was deleted within 30 days, you can recover it by replying to the deletion confirmation email.

but now I’ve got to wait a month
Email addresses on deleted accounts are held for 1 month, but you can still recover the deleted account as mentioned above and change the email addresses.
Alternatively, if it was a gmail email, have you thought about using a gmail alias? Instead of using this:
yourrealemail (at) gmail (dot) comUse this:
yourrealemail+otheraccount (at) gmail (dot) comYou can make that +1, +whatever, +doesnotmatter … whatever letters or numbers make the most sense to you. Gmail will ignore the plus sign and anything after it. But we won’t, so it’s in effect a second email account that delivers to the same address.
