smiley face in place of my widgets?
-
None of my widgets are showing up and instead there is a little smiley face in their place. This has been happening since last night. I’ve tried changing the widgets out and moving them around but to no avail. Am I doing something wrong or has my blog been corrupted??

That is “Angela” and she is always there, you just didn’t see her before. She’s important for the stat counter.
What happens when you do any changes to the sidebar is that the default arrangement of widgets that was there before gets stripped out and you have to put everything back in one by one. Try that. Angela will still be around when you do, but let us know if you’re having trouble getting the widgets to stay or anything.

ok, hang on. all of the sidebar widgets are now at the bottom of the page. but on the page where i click, drag and drop the widgets into either the sidebar or bottom, everything is where it should be.

Sidebars tend to fall when we put large images or copy and paste text into a post that exceed the maximums for the blogging space in our various themes. This is a helpful resource http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/
Set your blog to display only one post and go through them till you find the one causing the problem.
ps – it’s savvy not saavy :)

ps again – there are no w’s in your url. Your url is http://smellslikehome.wordpress.com

thanks for all of your help so far! (including my mis-spelling, which NO ONE has mentioned in the almost 1yr of my blog’s existence!)

I ran into the same problem. I hadn’t used any large images. I hadn’t posted longer than normal posts, but I had used a “click to read more” feature right after a bullet point, which threw the “click to read more” feature out of whack. It retained the tab from the bullet point, which pushed it further to the right than it should be. In the end I moved that feature a line or two (dodged the bullet) and all was well again.
It took forever to figure out because I couldn’t see the more/continuation feature when I looked at the individual post because once you click on the full post you drop that feature from the post view. Therefore the individual post looked good and only threw the sidebar out of whack when it was abbreviated.

Yes, the More tag has been causing all sorts of problems lately. There are a dozen threads on it at least.
-
Well, it’s only because people first write and format their text in the visual editor and then insert the “more” tag, which breaks formatting if inserted in the middle of a paragraph or of a division (or, worse, of a table). A good habit would be to hit “enter” once before inserting the more tag.

It did not used to occur, prior to about six weeks ago. We got a ton of photo-related sidebar issues, but I don’t recall the Div tag being an issue.
