How do I remove these <!–[if !supportEmptyParas]–> that appear throughout my blog and the smiley faces that replace my every number 8? Thanks Anteater17

I believe these happen if you use certain Microsoft products like Word or Outlook to create HTML formatted text:

For your first question, the answer is not to paste from Word. It always does this, and if that’s the worst problem your blog has because you’ve pasted from Word you’re very, very lucky. It’s a HUGE problem-causer.
For the second, look here and do the opposite:

I have these smiley faces that are appearing all over my blog now (giving me a big frown). There seems to have been some change with WordPress and now all at once I have these smiley faces in any post I’ve ever made that has 08) … and I have a lot of 08) on my blog! Is there anyway to make these guys go away, other than going into every post they appear and adding a space between the 8 and the )? Regarding previous advise, I format my own HTML and type it right into by blog. Thanks for any advise.
An example page is http://hilltownfamilies.wordpress.com/2007/12/04/tmo001 an entry I posted in December that had smiley faces appear a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, you go to Settings and disable smileys on the Settings->Writing page. Just untick the Smileys box.
