SMS not being received in two-factor setup

    WordPress is “suggesting” that I enable two-step authentication so I followed the bouncing ball and “opted” for the SMS method… as it is the only one that’d work for me anyway.

    The guide and prompts are not definitive about what to enter as “Mobile Phone Number”. So I was left guessing as to it wanted the full number with country code (i.e. +6141…..), the national number with a leading zero, or the one without the leading zero as the country has already been selected.

    I entered one, the full number. No message received after waiting for half an hour. Tried another… nothing for half an hour. Tried the last plausible option… nothing received over the past hour.

    I tried searching for answers but the only one answer that comes up with the same question is a link to the forum; but the topic seems to have disappeared.

    I’m in limbo now. I can neither enable nor disable two-step authentication.

    Once you’ve selected a country from the ‘Mobile Phone Country‘ list, you only need to enter your phone number (without country code), either with or without a zero. Could you please give that a try?

    Blunder on my part I’m afraid.

    Somehow, I failed to recognize the “Send SMS” button as something that I had to press. Doh!
