Snaps theme front page thumbnails
-
I saw another post asking a similar question and there was no response. I’ll ask again but I’m really confused about this. The Snaps theme shows thumbnails on the front page and the blogs I’ve looked at via the support forum are all the same as mine…scrolling post after post after post. Why is that? How do I get the thumbnails of the featured image ONLY on the front page? I don’t get it. The preview of the theme shows the thumbnails and I do not understand at all how to get it like this. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Yes, I’ve looked at it before and I went again to look at it just now. When I click on the links on the right of the page in the link you provided all that comes up is more wp theme pages. There’s nothing that tells what to DO. That’s what I need is something that gives a description or something of what to actually do. I’m not a technie but I’m not a dummy either. I’m sure if I had something that gave a description of what to do I could figure it out. I found a tutorial online and it helped some but I’m still have this same problem as some of the other users seem to have and have not found a solution to as of yet. Thanks for your time and efforts to help with this matter.

You’re welcome and all you need now is patience while waiting for Staff to work their way forward to this thread.

I’m looking on the snaps developer page and it says to choose a static home page in the customize area. But, then in the next paragraph it says Please note: Setting a static home page will remove the default home page elements built into the theme. I do NOT have a static home page set. I clicked to set it as a static home page and then some drop down menus came up and I stopped and went back to the other choice which is your home page displays your latest post. This is very confusing to say the least!

Have you changed themes or are you referring to an entirely different site?
I see the Ideation and Intent theme here https://knittersthumb.wordpress.com/
What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you refer to please?

I got so frustrated with snaps and trying to get it to work for the past 2 days…then it dawned on me that I didn’t have to use snaps and I could switch themes. I just switched themes about 15 minutes ago. I’d like to use snaps but it is way too frustrating. Thanks for your help and I’ll keep following this in case a solution is found.

Ah .. so my eyes were not failing me. ;) Staff will respond here as soon as they work their way forward to this thread.

knittersthumb – would you still like some help setting up Snaps or are you happy with your current theme?
One thing to keep in mind is that Snaps is designed to showcase portfolio-oriented images, rather than traditional landscape-oriented ones. If your images don’t tend to be portrait (taller than they are wide) then Snaps is probably not the best theme for you.
If you do decide it to give it a try:
Snaps’s homepage template displays portfolio projects, so you’d need to add some portfolio projects to your site as the first step. Portfolio projects can be added in the WP Admin dashboard here:
https://knittersthumb.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=jetpack-portfolio
Each project should include a featured image, uploaded via the Featured Image box.
Once you have some projects with featured images added, you’ll need to create a static front page and assign the Portfolio template to it, following the steps in the Snaps setup guide, under the “Portfolio” heading:
https://wordpress.com/themes/snaps/
Just let me know if you have further questions.

Hi, Thanks for your reply! I appreciate it. I am happy with my current theme but I’m happy to know about how to use snaps more effectively. I did try to create a portfolio yesterday before giving up on snaps but I didn’t go through all the steps you outlined in your reply. Thank you again and I will give this a try soon. Thank you again.

Hi Kathrynwp,
Following this conversation, I must say building Snaps is rather complicated.
To be more specific, I have followed the steps you and your suggested sites mention. I have made a new page “Home”, have selected the static front page and have posted one project, which I can see when typinghttps://mplamploublog.wordpress.com/portfolio/
Thing is there is no way right now that someone else can find the project unless he magically knows that a portfolio page exists. So, how can I insert the Portfolio page to the Menu tab?
-
nerubianweaver – looks like you have the portfolio set up on the front page:
https://mplamploublog.wordpress.com/
I also see a Portfolio link in the menu. Are you all set?
