Snaps theme help needed
-
I’m hoping someone can help me. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to put my portfolio website together without much progress. I’ve never used wordpress before and I”m finding it really confusing.
When I look at the live demo, text appears on a black background, when you hover the cursor over the image. This isn’t happening on my site. I don’t want to use any of the blog/post features – could this be the problem? Do the portfolio images have to also appear as a ‘post’ for this to work?

My second problem is, I only want the page names to appear on the menu bar at the top, but the names ie novelty, magazines etc are also appearing below on the page with the images.
This is my site

Hi,
When I look at the live demo, text appears on a black background, when you hover the cursor over the image. This isn’t happening on my site
Here are some relevant differences between your site, and the demo:
1. The demo has a static page assigned the Portfolio Page Template assigned as the front page. You’ve got the About page, with the Default Page Template assigned, chosen as the front page.
2. Your page “Novelty Books” (Default Template) appears to have a portfolio shortcode included. This makes it similar in appearance to the front page of the demo, but the demo’s front page omits the page title, page content, as well as Like and Sharing buttons. Yours includes the page title, content (the same image four times), and the Like button. Also, I don’t think the demo uses portfolio shortcode at all. It’s unnecessary to use portfolio shortcode to display the portfolio on a page if the page is assigned to the Portfolio Page Template.
3. Unlike your site (I think), the demo is using a custom menu. Notice that, in the demo, the “Home” and “Portfolio” tabs in the navigation bar menu link to the same page. Only a custom menu can do that.I don’t want to use any of the blog/post features – could this be the problem?
Not sure what you mean. What sort of blog/post features?
Do the portfolio images have to also appear as a ‘post’ for this to work?
No.
My second problem is, I only want the page names to appear on the menu bar at the top, but the names ie novelty, magazines etc are also appearing below on the page with the images.
Hiding post or page titles can be done by simply deleting the titles, but WordPress.com support recommends that you use CSS customization to hide post/page titles.

Correction:
I just realized that your page “Novelty Books” might have the Portfolio Page Template assigned. If so, the differences between it and the front page of the demo would be limited to the following:1. “Novelty Books” is not assigned as the static front page.
2. Its page title appears.
3. Content is included.
4. “Show likes” is checked.
5. The menu tabs linking to “Novelty Books” and the homepage (“About”) are different, because these are two different page, whereas in the demo the Portfolio Page Template page and the homepage are the same page, though two separate links are found in the menu. -
and
6. Your site doesn’t have any widgets in the three footer widget areas, whereas the demo has one widget in each footer widget area, and these are displayed on the bottom of all pages and posts. -

Sorry, it’s me again. If I delete the title from the page, it also deletes it from the menu bar and now reads 2 (no title). Where about’s is the CSS customization? Thanks again, JK

Hi JK,
You’re welcome.
If I delete the title from the page, it also deletes it from the menu bar and now reads 2 (no title).
That’s to be expected. You can remedy that with a custom menu. Just create a link to the page in a custom menu, and add to it the “navigation label” of your choice. The navigation label is the word or phrase that will appear in the menu as the tab that links to the page.
Where about’s is the CSS customization?
The ability to customize CSS require the Custom Design upgrade. If you choose to add this upgrade, then you can either submit a question about it to the CSS Customization Forum, or add a “modlook” tag to this thread to call for staff attention.
