Snow effect/

Hey, is WP doing the snow effect this year (and if so, when)?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there, can’t say if it will happen this year as well, but given previous years if it happens, it will be sometime around the beginning of December. I’m sure there will be an announcement on the WPcom News Blog https://en.blog.wordpress.com/
Cheers!

Hi there,
As @justjennifer said above, it usually starts snowing once December arrives. I haven’t seen anything to the effect that it’s not happening this year, but I’ll try to confirm for you :)

NB with the issues around FF 57/Quantum
To what issues are you referring? I use Firefox and have not seen any issues on WordPress.com since updating to Quantum, nor am I aware of any reports that would indicate JavaScript code failing to run in that version of the browser.

There currently seems to be an issue with the Customizer. That is the one I can think of off the top of my head; Will go looking for the other ones when I have more time.
-
Keep in mind that WordPress 4.9 included significant customizer updates, so that might just as well be an issue coming from there rather than the Firefox release.
The holiday snow is some very basic JavaScript and CSS code, and has nowhere near as many moving parts that can break as the Customizer :)

So… for the layman—how do I go about disabling the snow? I must’ve enabled it years ago, and Google has only found outdated information as to how to turn it off. Apparently, there used to be a checkbox, but the box no longer exists (at least not in the same place, nor anywhere that I could find).
Thanks!

The snow effect is an account level setting, so you can control this in your account settings:
https://wordpress.com/me/account/
In other words, every user has control over whether they see the snow on all WordPress.com sites, or not at all. Logged out visitors will see the snow unless you disable it on your specific site as well.
You can disable this on specific sites you own so snow will show for no one on your sites, no matter their account settings, and so it also won’t show for logged out visitors. The option for that is in Settings ->General in the WP-Admin dashboard, but we’re working on also adding that to My Site ->Settings.
-
Just an update on this: you can now disable the snow for specific sites in your account from My Site ->Settings as well.

The snow feature isn’t working on any of my sites. Are there any ideas for how to fix this?
Here are two sites for reference:

http://Www.postadventure.wordpress.com -
P.S. I made sure that the snow was enabled both in settings and in my account. I also disabled, saved, and enabled with no luck.
-
I can see snow on both your sites, and I’ve confirmed the setting is correct for your account as well.
Can you see snow on other sites, for example on my site, kokkieh.blog?
It’s possible something in your browser is blocking the code that creates the snow. What browser are you using? Please check if clearing the browser cache makes any difference. How about if you use a different browser?
