So we can’t have adsense here at all, correct?
-
(sigh)
I didn’t misterpret the rule in anyway, did I? It seemed pretty straightforward.
-
Correct! Unless you have a VIP Account you cannot advertise on your blog.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/
And you cannot use a wordpress.com blog to drive traffic to 3rd party sites either. ToS section 2, 5th bullet http://wordpress.com/tos/Ignoring these rules will result in this: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/01/my-blog-has-been-suspended/
If you want to make a few pennies then spend a few. Hire a web host and download the free standing software from http://wordpress.org
-
It’s rumored that it’s pending though. Staff members have discussed it with third party media folks but not with the end users here. (Feel free to think about that statement)
-
I won’t bother posting the media reports that underlie these rumors.
Currently the wordpress.com policies do not allow it. -
-
Well, my bad then, for not reading things more carefully before I started! If I find a new location, will I be able to transfer the domain name I purchased through here?
-
The how to for re-pointing a domain is listed in here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/
Q: I purchased a domain through WordPress.com and now want to point it elsewhere. How can I do that?
A: If you purchased the domain through WordPress.com, under Options –> Domains from your blog’s dashboard, you will see a link that says “Manage Domains”. If you click on this link you will be able to receive access to a control panel that allows you to change your domains nameservers and point it elsewhere.“If you register a new domain with us, your domain will be usable for your blog only. You will be able to transfer your domain to another registrar, though not in the initial release. ” https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=4766
-
Thank you for your help! If I point my domain somewhere else, it won’t disappear if I delete my wordpress blog, will it?
I apologize for my ignorance. I’m trying to learn though.
-
-
A domain must exist with us for 60 days before it can be transferred. This is an ICANN ruling and common to all registrars.
The domain name servers can be changed at any time – your cpanel login lets you do that. And your blog won’t disappear. I’d recommend you make it fully private though – it won’t interfere with your domain and you can always come back to it.
-
If you don’t make it private, search engines can give you a downgrade for duplicate content, so it’s a good idea to hide it.
-
Doesn’t (with your own blog) latitude exists for driving traffic to another website (say from your blog to your website or a JV site)? Because ToS Section 2 seems to be addressing the spam problem only.

I just want to chime in here, in an effort to bring some sense into this madness.
I think it is absolutely rediculous and apalling that WordPress.com does not allow AdSense. I am actually now looking to move my blog completely off this platform for this reason only. I would happily pay a small premium (but not $300/months – that’s ludicrous!) to allow ads on my blog, but the ads that I get paid for.
WordPress.com provides bloggin platform. I’m happy to pay small amount for premium features.
I provide content. If my content is useful to other people and they are willing to come read it, why can’t I monetize on my creating using wordpress.com?
I’ve been blogging for over a year and only recently signed up for AdSense. I am now moving away from this platform.
Hope this will influence the people in charge to write some trivial billing code and allow AdSense widget on the side bar. Until then people like myself will be leaving.
Sorry!

@kigster
I’ll take the time to strongly encourage you to move to any other blog host you like just as soon as you like. And please don’t let the door get you on the way out.It does seem to me that you don’t know as much about blogging as you profess. After all, you just posted here in the forum questions thread and asked no questions nor did you provide any answers.
Rather than posting your rant on your blog you sacrificed any opportunity for dialog, comments or hits and instead you emotionally dumped on volunteers answering forum questions. {rolling eyes}
I won’t be missing you, for sure, for sure.

LOL … yet another adsenseless ranter with a spelling deficiency shoots himself in the foot as he shuffles off to Blogger. :D
