Social Bookmarking Button

Several nights ago I was able to complete the Add This Social Bookmarking button on my side bar. I went to several of the host sites and registered with a number of them. I have a question in follow up to completing this process. Do I need to do anything more to get people on those sites to see and visit my blog on a regular basis? Is there a quick way to let them know when I complete a post, like with a ping goat or a similiar service. I ask these questions in the forum, since being able to connect with the social bookmarking community is new to Word Press since javascript has not been permitted. Any other suggestions or ideas would be highly valued. Thank you.

Nope, not that I’m aware of. You may want to use the digg feature though for each interesting post as that’s seperate. Do note though that overdoing it or adding in posts without merit is the quickest way to get blackballed or banned from over there.
Hope this helps,

Hi Dr. Mike,
Thanks for your kindness and insight. I will see about Digg and learn the ropes. I will get back to you if I have further questions. Thanks again and have a nice evening. Craig -
I am a little frustrated. I go to Digg to sign up and I can not enter my screen name, secondchancetolive because it is more than 15 characters. Ok–I try and shorten it to 2ndChanc2Live which is 14 characters, which does not exceed 15 characters. Digg again tells me that I my username is:
Sorry – only the characters a-z, A-Z and 0-9 are allowed in usernames.
I tried to get Digg’s registration process multiple times but I keep getting similiar type messages. I am quickly growing weary with the hoop jumping. Anyone had a similiar experience? Anyone have a work around or suggestions? Digg may have shot themselves in the foot concerning my site.

Craig,
Try it again. I was able to check the availability of that name (2ndChanc2Live) with no trouble (it’s still available by the way).Judy

Hi Judy…thanks so much. I appreciate you getting back to me. I have a question. I am known as Second Chance to Live, not as 2ndChance2Live by the search engines. I do not want to confuse the system. I have recently posted with Delicious and had to use the 2ndChance2live and am not happy about the matter. Someone is using my registered domain name. What can/should I do at this point?
-
A registered domain name does not mean it;s a trademark. There’s not a whole lot you can do about that.
Else I would have gone after all those folks calling themselves ‘drmike’ on the net. :)

Hmm. How does google and all the other search engines sort it out then? What about copy right infringments, ect. ? By the way, I would never think of calling myself or leading others to believe I was Dr.Mike. There is only one of you and only one of me. We are all special. That is what my site / blog is about…discovering ones creative uniqueness. Have great day!

Google doesn’t care what your Digg userID is or what your Delicious ID is.
If you want to rank on search engines for
Second Chance to Live and
2nd Chance to Live and
2nd Chance 2 Livethen you will need to add those terms to your blog someplace.
Do you have a US trademark on Second Chance to Live?
Actually, I can find that out myself … … … You do not.
“No TESS records were found to match the criteria of your query. “
If the trademark was registered then you could attempt to obtain the domain name by filing a request with the proper authorities. My wife does that all the time for people.
Barring the trademark, there is not much that can be done.
For example:
http://www.secondchancetolive.com
http://www.secondchancetolive.net
http://www.secondchancetolive.org
http://www.secondchancetolive.infosecondchancetolive.wordpress.com
secondchancetolive.blogspot.com
secondchancetolive.blogs.com
secondchancetolive.typepad.comThese can all be owned and run by different people and have totally different purposes and there is nothing any of them can do about it.
People can also have whatever userID they want, wherever they want as long as no one else has taken it first and as long as it meets that system’s rules.

Thanks so very much for taking the time to explain the above quotes. The information is a big help. Have a great weekend.

You can go ahead and apply for a trademark on the term if you want. Do remember though that anyone using it already before you apply would still have permission to use it. Also if it’s a fairly common phase, they won’t allow it. Trump tried to get “You’re fired” and it didn’t go.
There is an ICANN procedure for those who have trademarks over a term to go after those registering and/ or holding domains using that trademark. The biggest case I know of was vw.com. A company called Virtual Works actually first had the domain and Volkswagen went after them. Link

Thanks so much for the time and information. I do not know if it is in my best interest to make a big to do about on this matter on the www. If anyone has an opinion for me, given the growing popularity and exposure my weblog / site is receiving around the world. It is not of us, but through us.

Yes, my opinion is that you should let it go. If your name is Bob, you don’t sue other people named Bob.
