Social Links Museum Theme

    I would like a Twitter icon to appear in the top menu but the icon that appears instead is the Pinterest one even though it links to my Twitter account correctly. Is this something that you can correct at your end?
    Many thanks

    Museum allows you to display links to your social media profiles with icons in the header. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/museum/ Learn how to set it up. To me it looks as if the icons are displayed in alphabetical order.

    Thanks for replying. Yes, I have followed the instructions already.
    However, I was unable to see exactly how to ‘choose’ the Twitter icon. I assumed from the only instructions”Linking to any of the following sites will automatically display its icon in your menu:” that it would somehow ‘know’ that by linking to a Twitter site, a Twitter icon is required. Instead a Pinterest icon appears.

  • We have got an interesting problem here.

    That is a Path.com icon. It is appearing because your twitter handle has the text “path” in it: unpave_my_path and the way WordPress picks the icon is if the url has the service name anywhere in it. But your twitter handle has two service names, twitter and path but it seems WordPress is picking the last occurring “path” and displaying Path.com icon.

    Do you happen to have Custom Design upgrade in which case we can easily override the icon using the following style: f202 is twitter icon. Oiginally it was f219 which is Path icon.

    .social-menu a[href*="path"]:before {
    	content: "f202";
    }

    However I have no idea yet, how to get rid of this problem if you don’t have Custom Design upgrade. I will keep thinking.

  • I am unsure how much attached you are to your twitter handle.

    How Should You Change Your Twitter Handle explains you how to change to your twitter handle.

    Kindly excuse me if your twitter handle is important to you the way it is currently.

    I wouldn’t expect someone to have to change a twitter handle just to get an icon in a menu. Is it possible to work around it with a Custom Menu?

    Hi thanks all for the interesting explanation and suggestions!

    I don’t really want to change my Twitter handle and I don’t have the Custom Design upgrade but I will create a custom menu link with an icon of my own to get around it.

  • Aren’t we already using a custom link?

    This problem persists as long as “twitter” and “path” are part of the same url, in this case they are. Because the theme CSS that selects the icon is the following. f219 is the Path.com icon.

    .social-menu a[href*="path"]:before {
    	content: "f219";
    }

    Oh :(. For now I have added a text widget to my footer which does the job temporarily – hoping there maybe a future fix.

    Hi Lisa,

    Sorry for the trouble! As chaitanyamsv mentioned earlier, the Museum theme is getting confused by the word “path” in your Twitter URL. However, please don’t feel pressured to change your Twitter username. :) I’ve reported the issue to our team and recommended a fix — we’ll let you know once there’s an update about it.

    Thanks for reporting this issue!
