Social Media Buttons after Blog Post have Stopped Displaying Number
-
Up until yesterday, the social media buttons (facebook, twitter, etc) underneath a blog post would show me how many times someone had clicked. For example, after one article, it showed that it had been facebooked 20 times. All of a sudden, those numbers are gone. Is there a way to get them back? Even the numbers that showed up yesterday are gone this morning.
Prior to them all disappearing, they stuck around for days and days, updating themselves as people clicked. Now there is nothing.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Mimi!
I see that you purchased your custom domain recently – that’s what’s causing the issue with the sharing counts. The way those totals work is that the button asks Facebook “How many times has this URL been shared?” — Facebook tells us, and the button displays the number. When you switched from mimimatthews.wordpress.com to mimimatthews.com, the URL changed.
So all those shares for this URL:
https://mimimatthews.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/wartime-romance-regency-era-england-and-1940s-america/Won’t get counted alongside this one:
http://mimimatthews.com/2015/03/27/wartime-romance-regency-era-england-and-1940s-america/Facebook/twitter/etc don’t see it as the same post with a new domain, they see it as ‘a different URL.’
This is why your newest post shows the counts correctly, just not the older ones before the domain was purchased.
Sadly, there’s no way to add in all those past shares, but your counts going forward will continue to work.

Thanks for the explanation, Alex. How disappointing! I wish I had know this would happen before I upgraded to a new domain.
