Social media widget problem
-
The social media widget does not link to my linkedin or youtube accounts. Any suggestions?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I was unable to find a social media icons widget on https://anthonystender.wordpress.com/. Is that what you are referring to?
-
I took the widget down. Originally when it was up, I typed in my Linkedin and YouTube user names, per the online instructions, and the widget linked to the wrong webpages. I tried typing in the full web address, and that didn’t work either. So then I took the widget down.

It appears that the incorrect usernames were used for the widget in question.
Can you double check those values and update the widget?

These are the two pages I am attempting to link to:
https://www.youtube.com/user/As33Films
https://www.linkedin.com/pub/anthony-stender/50/74b/104
Let me know what you figure out. It seems to be more complicated than simply inputting the username into the widget.

Have you tried it again? Failure to link could result due to something as simple as leaving a space before the username in a username field.

The URLs you provided are not valid, and the correct values will depend on the social network.
For YouTube, you need to provide the value for your Channel URL:
For LinkedIn, you will need to create a Public Profile URL (if you haven’t already):
Then, enter the value that comes after https://www.linkedin.com/in/ in the widget.

Now I’m really confused. Technically, I don’t have a username on LinkedIn. Instead, I log in by typing in my email address. If I enter that into the social media widget, it doesn’t find my profile. If I do an ask or google search by typing in my name and “linkedin”, it goes directly to my linkedin page.
Also, for Youtube, I do have my username typed into the social media widget. What’s curious is that if I click the youtube link on my wordpress site, it takes me to http://www.youtube.com/channel/as33films, but my webpage is actually http://www.youtube.com/user/as33films. So maybe that is something i have to update at Youtube, which I can look into. But, it still doesn’t explain how I am supposed to link with my linkedin account, which is more important to me.
Do I simply type in my username, or is there “more” that I need to enter. Or is there a bug in the widget? -
I figured out the LinkedIn problem, from the links you suggested. But I can’t seem to figure out how to fix the YouTube problem, short of making a new YouTube page as some users on YouTube have discussed in their forums. I have a user page, and not a channel page.
-
I’m glad your LinkedIn issue is resolved.
For YouTube, you will need to create a channel, as I previously demonstrated.

Thank you very much. I finally figured out the Youtube issue as well. My channel name wasn’t obvious, because I have a “user” account, not a “channel” account, but I found a YouTube forum that explained how to find my actual channel username.
All is good now. -
Awesome! I’m glad you were able to get things worked out.
If you have any other questions regarding WordPress.com, please let us know :-)

It seems that wordpress design linkedin link for personal profiles, and I need to link to my company profile where is no “/in/” in the url. So, how I can override this role and remove the preset “/in/” from url.
thank you for any help. my website alguzlan.com
Note: All other social media icons are linked perfectly.

At present, you can’t.
However, you can create your own social media buttons that will link to wherever you’d like:
Add Social Media Buttons to Your Sidebar or Footer

I’m really disappointed that the LinkedIn social media button on the Social media icon widget is not coded properly and will not work. LinkedIn URLs start with https://www.linkedin.com/pub/ not /in/
-
Your feedback is appreciated.
For now, you can create your own social media buttons, with their own custom links:
