Social Stream – How to add?

  I would like to add a social stream to my wordpress.com blog.
  I have searched this extensively but have not found an answer.
  I am unclear as to whether I can install custom widgets. (Most ‘apps’ appear to be plugins and thus refer to wp.org, as far as I understand, right?)
  I can’t find short code versions either.

  Surely loads of people are using this on wordpress.com so I must be missing something!

  Hi meike,

  I have to assume that what you mean by “social stream” is that you would like to display and aggregate your social networks in an integrated way on your WordPress.com site, correct?

  You are correct. WordPress.com users do not have the ability to upload plugins and as a result, adding widgets is also forbidden.

  yes, that what I mean. I’m surprised that there isn’t a plugin available which offers this function.

  Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. You are confusing WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM. For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted site running on a paid web hosting service.

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.
