soft 404 errors

  Hi google webmaster tools is reporting the following soft 404 errors for my blog

  – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/tag/canine-parkour/
  – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/tag/positive-vs-aversive-methods/
  – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/tag/bougainvillae/
  – http://weliveinaflat.wordpress.com/tag/ndp-rehearsal-fireworks/

  These are tags that I have removed, is there something I should do to get the blog to return a 404 (file not found) error, rather than returning the soft 404 error?

  I have 21 soft 404 errors now and from the lack of response, am I to assume that there is no answer or resolution for this query? Thank you.
