Some blog articles are not shown on main blog page

  • Unknown's avatar

On our https://blog.yoga.in/ main page we do show per default our articles in chronological order (as it is standard for all blogs).

While this is true for the last 6 or 7 articles from January onwards, we do miss a few month from mid of August to end December 2018. These articles are not gone, we can access them with a direct link. E.g. this article:

100 years of The Yoga Institute

(this article is from beginning of December but it is not shown in the chronological order).

Please let us know how we can show all articles in the chronological way (and how we can assure that really all are shown).

Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Otto,

The same issue was reported in 2015 in the topic Missing old posts. In that case, turning off infinite scroll resulted in the missing posts being displayed as expected, in the correct order. At the end of the topic, staff member staff-ozmodiar comments that “Having a ton of posts can make it be a little buggy, yes. Mostly just because there is so much to load.”

Note that the theme had apparently already been retired in 2015. I suspect that bugs on retired themes are likely to remain bugs. However, I’ve flagged the topic for staff attention. Staff will respond here.

For instructions on disabling infinite scroll, see the Disabling Infinite Scroll section of the Infinite Scroll support page.

    Hi Otto,

    @musicdoc1
is correct — the Spectrum theme has been retired for some time and that means it is no longer being updated (and no new features will be added).

With that in mind, I recommend trying the suggestion to turn off infinite scroll and see whether that helps. Alternatively, I’d be happy to help you look for another theme if infinite scroll is something you are keen to keep.

    Very sharp on both parts:
    1) Basically this is the answer, but now there is a different mistake as the click on “older posts” leads to some reload problems (and a kind infinity loop on my browsers).
    2) And yes, I guess we need the new themes. This is the reason why no. 1) is not working.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi gemmacevans,

Many thanks for the fast answer.

It is indeed a problem and your help in finding a new theme is very appreciated. 1) Where can we have a look?
    2) Will it be a one click thing and work or will it be more complicated to change the theme?

    In Yoga,
    Otto

  • Hi Otto –

No worries. So, all of our themes that you can pick from are in the showcase at https://wordpress.com/themes/ You can sort those out by feature and/or layout design, etc…

Each theme comes with an instructional set up page and also a live theme demo. So, you can take a good look at both before making a decision. It’s more than a one click setup but the instructional pages will walk you through. Plus, we are here to answer any questions that you come across.

Everything with a green beginner banner is going to be pretty simple to setup.

    @staff,

I somehow made an error in creating the link to the old topic that I cited in my first post above, inserting the URL twice, which results in a page not found error. It would be nice if one of you could fix that link. Here is the corrected link: Missing old posts, and the link URL: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/missing-old-posts/.

  • Fixed, @musicdoc1 :)

Otto, I just wanted to add, if you see something you like here, you can click “Try and Customize” to see how it will look on your site.

If you don’t like it, you can just cancel and you’ll be back to your old version. But I think you’ll find several you’ll like here.

  • Otto –

You’re welcome. Just come back to us here if you run in to any questions getting the new theme setup.

Hello to the wonderful WordPress Team!

Indeed I have now a few questions for our final choice:

    1) In our current theme we can not see the Facebook Shares – and as we have some articles with 1,000+ shares we think this is a valuable information for our blog readers. Question: Can you tell us how which themes show the number of Facebook and Twitter Shares?

    2) While we search through all these 300 themes on wordpress.com it would be very helpful to unterstand which themes are popular (how many installations), when they were last updated, so that we can avoid to change to a theme which is maybe not supported in a few months. Maybe this would also be a suggest for an improvement for wordpress.com to show such statistics/facts.

Thank you very much in advance for your answer.

    In Yoga,
    Otto

  • Welcome back, Otto.

We can certainly help make some suggestions. Tell me more about how you want the site to appear…. For example, are you looking to have a heavy image or text presence on the home page? Do you like grid layouts or column style?

The themes page can be filtered by features and layouts.

Displaying the share numbers should work on any theme by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/#customize-your-services

    Thank you Iizkarkoski,

It took us some time to reply but now we have changed to a premium plan and we found a theme called Ippo, which seems to suit us well. We have just bought the premium plan and unfortunately we did not get a reimbursement for our ‘no ads’ and ‘domain mapping’ features, which we just paid last months with 43 US$, but which are now included in our features of the premium plan.

And thank you for the link with the numbers of Facebooks shares: It worked well!

It looks like you got help with that via live chat already, so leaving this marked as resolved.

Yes, all is fine, you are all wonderful and a very fast, helpful and positive team. Thank you!
