Some categories didn't delete all the way.

A year or so ago, I reorganized my categories. I deleted a few of them, but they still show up in the drop-down menus for ‘quick edit’ and creating posts. I currently have 22 categories, but my categories page says I have 27. It says I have 2 pages, but the second page is blank. Can you fix this? The categories I want deleted are the five that say ‘classes’ at the end. Thanks.

What happens when you try to delete the unwanted categories at https://asdeckerfamily.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category?
It says I have 2 pages, but the second page is blank.
Can you provide a screen shot of that?

That’s the thing. I already deleted the unwanted categories, but they still show up… just not on the category page. I’m not sure how to upload an image here. Basically when I click on “categories” in the left panel, my list of 22 categories comes up, but the top says “27 items” and “page 1 of 2”, but then when I click on page 2, there’s nothing listed.
When I go to choose a category in a drop-down menu when I’m editing or creating a post, though, all 27 (the 22 I use and the 5 I deleted a looong time ago) show up.

Ohhhh, weird! I just tried searching for the names of the ones I deleted, and they popped up! I was able to actually (hopefully) delete them this time! Can’t believe I didn’t think to try that before. I have no idea why they wouldn’t show up though. They had 0 posts in them, but I have other categories with 0 posts that show up, and it’s supposed to be a master list anyway, so everything should show up regardless of post count. Hm.

Removing a category from a post, or via Quick Edit at All Posts, does not delete them.

If I understand you correctly, that is very peculiar. You should be able to go to the categories page, reached via the classic dashboard admin panel at Posts > Categories, and edit or delete categories as desired. Your categories page is https://asdeckerfamily.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category. I’ve never yet encountered while managing several dozen WP.com sites the two different counts of categories that you report, or a link to second page of categories that is blank. I’ll tag the topic for staff attention.

Hi there! I’m not seeing the Categories you referenced in any of your Category lists. Are you still seeing these?

I did delete them from the Categories page, which is why it was confusing that they didn’t completely delete, but remained hidden until I specifically searched for them.
shawnajroberts: As stated in my comment at 8:50 AM, I was able to resolve this problem by specifically searching for the names of the hidden categories and then re-deleting them.
Summary: A year or so ago I deleted some categories properly (from the Categories page), yet they did not completely delete. However, they remained hidden on the categories page until today, when I specifically searched for them by name and was able to re-delete them that way.
