Some images are tiny in editor
-
For the past two days, when I am editing a page or post on my site, some of the images appear very small. I can correct that by changing the alignment, but the problem returns when I edit the page again. It’s not necessarily the same images that are affected each time I edit the page or post. The images look correct on the site, and are only affected in the editor. I’m using the Libre2 theme.

This is happening to me too, as of today. When I edit an existing page on my site the images are now being shown on the Edit Page (but not on the live page) in thumbnail size.

I just got off a chat with WordPress.com support. They said that my theme (Big Brother) was retired a few years ago and is no longer supported. (This was news to me).
Their suggestion was that I select a new more modern theme to replace the theme that I had been using.
You might want to check to see if the theme you are using is active or retired.

This must be a new universal problem with the WordPress editor. I tried a different computer, and I tried editing one of my other sites and the problem is the same. Then I tried changing the theme from Libre2 to Ixion and Gateway, and the problem was the same with them too. I’m surprised more people aren’t complaining about this.
-
I also tried switching from Chrome to Brave to Microsoft Edge and the problem is still the same.
-
I too am surprised that more people are commenting about this. FYI, I tried adding the image again and it still displays as a thumbnail size image on the Edit Page. Oddly, this problem only occurs for me with some but not all images. Very weird.

WordPress support is now aware of the problem, and it seems to be a glitch in the code. He gave me an easy workaround while they work on the problem. When you start editing any post or page, first click on code editor, then click back on visual editor and everything will look normal. This won’t fix the problem, but it makes it possible to edit the page in the visual editor with just those two quick clicks. You will need to continue to do this until WordPress comes up with a fix.

I tried the workaround for this problem (switch to the code editor and then back to visual editor) and I can confirm that did make it possible for me to see the images on the page/post in their normal size. Thank you very much for sharing the workaround.
I’ll contact WordPress support and add my voice to those requesting a speedy resolution to this problem.

Got the same issue, an older theme. I don’t want to change my theme, though, very happy with it. Thanks for the temp fix Gordon, by the way.

Hi there!
We are aware of an issue with the editor that causes images with captions to appear smaller in the editor when the site has an older theme active. It has been reported to our developers, although we don’t have an ETA as to when it might get fixed.
As far as we’re aware, this only affects the size of the image in the editor. The live site still shows the correct size. Can you please confirm if that’s correct in your cases?
Also, thank you @gordonrharris for sharing the workaround with others here. Much appreciated! :)

It fixes itself if you use the workaround, and yes, it’s only in the editor. However, the pictures get stuck in what you put them as (size). You can make them smaller, but no longer larger. If you want them bigger, you have to re-add the image.
-
Tom I checked that out and I have the same issue about not being able to change images back to larger as well. Here it is over a month since I reported this to WordPress.com and the situation still exists. There’s been no reply since they acknowledged the problem and said they would report it. It puzzles me that more people aren’t complaining about this. I’ve tried different computers, different browsers, different themes, and none of that makes any difference. Hello, WordPress, is anybody listening?
-
Hey there,
Rest assured we are listening and this is on our radar.
We appreciate your patience whilst we work through this.
-
Thanks Aleone89. It’s helpful to know it’s not just a few of us experiencing this problem. Are there any themes in which it doesn’t happen?
-
@gordonrharris it seems to only affect older themes, so if you want to try one of the newer block themes, you may have some luck there.
