SOME images do not link to jp carousel

  • Unknown's avatar

Some of the images that I have chosen to ‘Link to: media file’ open the file in a jp carousel-like window (like the one here: https://kensingtonplants.wordpress.com/2019/03/01/winter-2019/). However, others link to the traditional page (like the first image here: https://kensingtonplants.wordpress.com/2019/04/13/cherry-blossoms-2019/). The html for the two is exactly the same and even if I post the image in a different place, I get the same result, so it seems to be related to the image itself. Is there any way to get all of my images to open in the jp carousel window?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, can you let us know which Editor you are using to create your posts, the Classic Editor or the new Block Editor? And also, where are you creating your posts, in the WP Admin interface or the My Sites interface? Thanks.

In general it looks like some images in your cherry blossom post have been inserted using the Gallery feature, while others have not.

I am using block editor (URL reads “…block-editor/post/”) but I edit the html manually and add images from the toolbar. I created the posts from “My Site”.

I do not have problems with the images in galleries; they’re all fine. It’s only SOME of the single images that I have a problem with. Thanks.

Hello again, thanks for adding that information.

So you are using the My Site’s Block Editor Code editor for both posts? And you are inserting every individual image using the same method?

I’ve added the MODLOOK tag for Staff input on what may be causing some images to open in the Gallery Carousel and some not. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

  • Howdy –

I’m following up on the Modlook tag. Please share the links of the affected, individual images from the mentioned post at Is there any way to get all of my images to open in the jp carousel window?

This way we can take a closer look.

It’d be great if you can also grab a screen shot of what you’re seeing. This way we can make a comparison to our own views. Link it here with snag.gy or droplr or something similar.

Last thing, does the editor behavior change when using a different browser?

I have used two methods to insert images to check if this will change the behavior; it does not. Each image maintains its own properties. I even deleted and re-uploaded some images with no change in results.

Here are screenshots of what I see (irrespective of browser) of the contrasting images:

I have only edited with one browser but can try another.

UPDATE: I just tried adding the same image using the same method, in this case My Site and adding a single image in its own block:

On this post, I cannot get the jp carousel (first image):

    Cherry Blossoms 2019

while on this one I can (only image):

    About

    Hmmm…Thanks.

  • Hi there,

On this post, I cannot get the jp carousel (first image):

    https://kensingtonplants.wordpress.com/2019/04/13/cherry-blossoms-2019/

At first I suspected it’s because you’re using a combination of the image block and the classic block on that post. And inside the classic block you have a mix of galleries, which do open the carousel as they should, and single images, which open the attachment page as they should. In the classic block only images added via the gallery option will ever show the carousel.

But creating a test post on my own site using a combination of the image block, and a classic block with both single images and galleries, I’m not able to replicate this, so it looks like it might be specific to your site.

I am using block editor (URL reads “…block-editor/post/”) but I edit the html manually

What exactly are you editing directly in the HTML?

  • Unknown's avatar

In the classic block only images added via the gallery option will ever show the carousel.

Some of my posts have a mix of single images that link to carousel and single images that link to attachment pages.

What exactly are you editing directly in the HTML?

I started pre-Gutenberg and was too lazy to figure out how to replicate the same appearance in blocks, so I just kept cutting and pasting and editing the same html. One reason I’m doing this is to learn/practice html and blocks don’t help with that.

Looks like I’ll have to switch to pure blocks to fix this. However, I appreciate everyone’s time trying to figure out what’s up.

    Thanks.
