SOME MALICIOUS ACTIVITY AT MY BLOG –

    There seems to have be malicious activity on my site:

    The problem affects all my other WordPress sites, which are mainly image sites, but I think this is the site targeted because of the political nature of my writing, something I’ve done for many years and am fairly known for, other publications having often run copies of my comments.

    I’ve always left myself logged in. But in recent days, when I went to the site, it was as though I’m logged out or I were a someone from the general public looking. No box appears at the top left for going to the control panel.

    The first time I panicked because it seems as though you are completely cut off, but I discovered a way though the “start a new blog” facility to log in. (By the way, it would be nice to have a small always-there log-in button right at the tops of blogs.)
    I was suspicious, so when I had done something on the blog, I changed the password.

    Next time I came, it was the same, as though I had logged out.
    This time, though, I started doing several things I wanted to do, and it wasn’t very long before I was asked to log in yet again. A log-in box is superimposed.
    Then, a short time later, I was asked again.

    It was very awkward to get anything done on the site, and again when I was through, I changed my password.
    Changing passwords isn’t easy for me since I like reasonably secure (complex) yet memorable ones, and I’m quite old.

    This has to be some kind of malicious activity.

    My blogs represent years of work, so I am concerned. Some of them are quite popular too.
    Although I’m a heck of a blogger, I’m not at all technical.
    Any help? I would have thought this not possible for someone to do.

    Note:

    There was indeed some kind of malicious stuff planted on the site.

    I am not technical, but I spotted a small horizontal box, outlined in thick lines on one of the internal screens, not the screens the public sees.

    It had some strange faint writing that looked like Arabic.

    It also had an “X” dismiss spot, which I hit, and the box disappeared.

    Then I worked for a while, as per my long habits.

    All very strange. A visit by aliens?

    Hi John,

    there is nothing odd on your site, however, what you described sounds like you may have some malicious software on your browser. Have you already scanned it with an anti-virus program?
    Would you be able to take a screenshot of the log in box or the that other message you saw? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/), or follow the instructions described here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/.
