Some menu items not displaying… You try clicking through the items in nav bar

  • Unknown's avatar

4 computers later…5am… Restarted dozens of times. Have. Look and try clicking each heading. And under services I want there to be the Main or overview then I want to add in 3 or 4 below – say for, students, for lawyers, for b schools etc.

At the moment I cannot get even the main pages to show up as they should do! I know safari caches everything so I have tried chrome and explorer. Now my iPad.

I should be enormously, grateful if my pages were visible.

    Thanks

    Hi Anthony!

And under services I want there to be the Main or overview then I want to add in 3 or 4 below – say for, students, for lawyers, for b schools etc.

You’ll need to manually add pages to your Custom Menu via Appearance > Menus in order for links for them to be visible:
    https://arjlegalmanagementconsulting.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=4712

We have a step-by-step guide for creating a a sub menu here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menus

You’ll be able to add items beneath Services by following that guide. :) Let me know if you have any extra questions on this. I’ll be happy to help further.

Hi. Thanks. What you say is great insofar as the menu items are now visible and in the right order. But. I now have two of them at the top of the site. Half the menu links work. Half do not. So. What have I done right. And what wrong? And the sub items are fully visible. This makes it all a bit of mudle doesn’t it? One step forward… If you can explain the above I can carry adding pages with clickable links on the menu.

    Thanks.

It is easier to delete the menus and start again. Except twice I have used the move up move down links to order the now new menu into the correct order and they are still in the old order. I tried it on 3 devices to check if cached but still the ordering has not changed. I pressed save each time and made sure I did.

So I must be missing another step?

    Hi there.

Can you head to the Appearance > Menus in WP Admin for me? Here’s a direct link to that page:
    https://arjlegalmanagementconsulting.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=4712

From here, you’ll be able to visualise how your menu, and any sub menu items, will be ordered on your site.

I took a look at your site and was able to click on all of the links there. Did you start over on this or are you still not able to access all of links in your menu? If you can let me know which specific ones you’re not able to access, then I can take a deeper look into this for you.

I am getting there… the step by step instructions need to be a bit clearer and I think I am still omitting one as there are tick boxes I still do not understand.

    I started with site admin
    then appearance
    then menus
I clicked the tab edit menus
from the drop down – select menu to edit I selected what I had named main top -= ie the usual set of tabs or clicks on a site – including time and about. I had deleted all previous menus as they did not work. I thought best to start again – I just clicked select all on the mid left below the list of pages.
On the ipad I found it impossible; on the pc I could then see all the pages in a column on the right. I moved pages into order.

Then at the bottom I clicked the tick box down the bottom under menu settings – theme locations – primary menu.

    Then both save buttons

And we seem to be there.

BUT – what does that last bit mean – menu setting? theme locations? Primary menu? I simply do not understand their significance or functionality.

    Kind thanks

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony.

I’m glad to see that you’ve got your menu up and running. :)

BUT – what does that last bit mean – menu setting? theme locations? Primary menu? I simply do not understand their significance or functionality.

The theme you’re using supports two different menus: The primary one which appears at the top of you site and a social link one that appear in the footer. You can view both of these in the theme’s demo site:
    https://penscratchdemo.wordpress.com/

If you’d like, you can create a new, second menu that displays your links to your social networks in your footer. We have a step-by-step account of how social links menus work here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/social-links-menu/

Let me know if anything in that guide needs clarifying.
