Today (17-10) I clicked on the ‘Edit’ button and everything after ‘<‘ desappear. All the is left are:
SONATA A DUO N.4 (fl, guit) (1975)
It occurs in every page I try to edit

@repertoireguitar can you confirm you are using the visual editor at https://wordpress.com/post ?
If you use that symbol in the text editor it may be stripped since that is a character used in coding.
-
Yes, I’m using the visual editor, visual mode (not html). The first time I published the text it stays ok, the problem happen when I try to edit after published. The edit option work just fine for two years, these start to happen recently, I notice today. Maybe its a new implementation? Or should I use other caracter?

@supernovia I believe is the default WordPress editor, once logged I just click in the “Edit” option on anypage in my blog and start typing. The selected tab on says “Visual”.
-
Thanks. I have not been able to duplicate this yet. First I created a new post on my test site, using https://wordpress.com/post .
I clicked on HTML and put this in the body:
SONATA A DUO N.4 (fl, guit) (1975) <Publisher: BÈRBEN [E. 2594 B.]> Today (17-10) I clicked on the 'Edit' button and everything after '<' desappear. All the is left are: SONATA A DUO N.4 (fl, guit) (1975)I saved, and the symbols were still there. I clicked edit, made an adjustment, and saved. The symbols are still there.
If I click on the HTML tab and save (or auto save), the symbols go away.
I am using Chrome on a mac.
Can you give me the exact steps you’re using?
-
@supernovia I’m using Windows 10, the same thing happens on Firefox 49.0.1 and Chrome 54.0.2840.59 m. I follow the same steps you done. Here is some screenshots.

I also try check and uncheck the option “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” on mystite/wp-admin/options-writing.php and doesn’t work.
-
Thank you. We did make an update to the code yesterday — can you try clearing the browser cache and giving it another go?
-
Hi supernova,
I have also experienced the same or similar problems today. The editor even strips away valid CSS codes. For example:
<div style="text-align: center; line-height: 1.5; font-size: x-large; font-weight: bold; margin-top: 1em;">Some Heading</div>
becomes
<div>Some Heading</div>
This serious problem has severely ruined the formats, element placements and styling of posts that I am trying to update or publish.I urgently look forward to the problem being remedied. Thank you in anticipation.

@chusmz you’ve confirmed your code works now after clearing the browser cache, right?
@soundeagle can you confirm whether that solves your issue?
-
-
Okay, clearing the cache just forces a refresh of the code. I’m glad this resolved on its own for you.

Thanks for all the answers. Unfortunately still doesn’t work for me. Only work the first time after login, after that the text between <> disappear. I also try on Firefox on ArchLinux and the result was the same.
-
@repertoireguitar can you verify you are using Visual mode only, and not switching to HTML mode? And that you are starting at wordpress.com/post ? I cannot duplicate this yet and need more information.
-
@supernovia yes, I’m using only Visual mode and I just try some text on wordpress.com/post, the same error still occurs.
