Some of my posts are missing – where did they go?

  • Unknown's avatar

I posted twice yesterday but only one of my articles is showing up, and three times on November 11th but there is nothing on my page between the 10th and the 12th.
When I click on them internally I can still find them. It’s not just me – one of my followers checked and she can’t see them either. I don’t know if there are more missing, but 4 is enough…
The site I’m asking about is lindaghill.com
    Thanks

Sorry, it was the 12th I posted twice where one of my posts is missing. Also, my sidebar is missing. One of my posts came back from the 11th, but I’m still missing 3 on my home page altogether.

    Hi Linda,

If I go missing completely, it means WordPress ate me for posting this.

I promise not to eat you. :)

Your sidebar issue is related. It’s not missing, it’s trying to load at the bottom of the page, but your infinite scroll makes it hard to see.

The real culprit here was in some HTML in this post:

    https://lindaghill.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=4344&action=edit&message=1

    In this bit:

    <a href="https://lindaghill.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/nablopomo_1114_465x287_blogroll.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4251" src="https://lindaghill.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/nablopomo_1114_465x287_blogroll.jpg?w=300&h=185" alt="NaBloPoMo_1114_465x287_blogroll" width="300" height="185"></a>

You had an unnecessary “/” in the img tag. I removed it and the posts now appear on your homepage, along with the sidebar.

    Best,

    -Alex G.

Thank you so much, Alex G. :) I’m probably not that tasty anyway. ;)

If it’s not too much trouble, can you tell me where the delinquent “/” was, in case it happens again? The image in question is one I’ll be using 16 more times this month, and I don’t want to bother you with this issue again.
    Thanks. :)

    Hi Linda,

    Happy to share. :)

It was at the very end of the img tag:

    “width=”300″ height=”185” />”

You can also see it in your Revisions view here:

    https://lindaghill.wordpress.com/wp-admin/revision.php?revision=4360

This sort of thing happens all the time. Developers spend hours looking for semicolons they never meant to type. ;)

Let me know if anything else comes up!

    Best,

    -Alex G.
