Some of my posts which I have upadted in my blog showing greyed out in reader.
Recently I am configuring the tags of all my blog posts. Some of the blog posts showing up in reader appear to be greyed out. Is that a problem or minor issue? -

Hi there,
Last year we introduced a feature in the Reader where it shows you if you’ve already read a post in your feed. So those posts that are greyed out are just posts that the Reader has marked as read/seen for you. If you click on any post that doesn’t show as greyed out, and then click back to the Reader, that post should become greyed out as well.
Updating published posts does not change their seen/unseen status for other people who follow your site in the Reader.

But that is not the case here. Posts that also not read/opened anytime also seem to be greyed out.

Providing us with links to the Reader isn’t going to highlight the problem because all your posts show as unread for me because I’ve not visited your site.
If you’re still having this problem, please take a screenshot of the problem in question and clarify if you’ve visited that post on your website previously. Note that if you view the post on your website after you publish it, that will count and will mark the post as “read” in your Reader feed.

Please note the post greyed out was like that when I connected the website to the wordpress reader. I not even opened the post or any posts that show greyed out. It’s just like that.

I have 18 posts just like that (greyed out) The previous posts seem alright. I opened them up & closed but they show fine. (On the screenshot shared, the post with “Cybersecurity” has been opened many times but as you can see it has not greyed out.)

The grey posts count as “read” so that’s working properly, but I’ll dig into this and see if we can’t figure out why your recent ones aren’t marking as read.

Maybe it’s a bug that is on the system.
I checked the same on other user’s post as well. Her 3-4 posts are showing just fine but rest (approx 20 posts) are greyed out. And I haven’t opened any of her posts.
Maybe the update isn’t working well.

Please note that this is expected behavior for the Reader and I don’t believe that there’s anything wrong with it.

Hi there,
After a closer look I see that the “seen/unseen” option was launched in Summer 2020. Because of the coding change this necessitated, it only applies to new posts published after the feature was launched.
The reason for this is that there is not a way to add a toggle to older posts (to mark them as “seen” after you have seen them. As a result, all posts older than 07/13/2020 are considered seen, and are shown as greyed out by default.
There is not a way to mark legacy blog posts as “unseen” in this case, and what you are seeing is the default behaviour in this case.
