Hi there ,
Please check whether you have enable the comments on your site.
To enable the comments on your site, you need to change discussion settings. Here is the direct link to change the discussion settings:
https://wordpress.com/settings/discussionFor more details on discussion settings you can refer following site :
https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settingHope this helps.
Thanks.

I have checked the settings. Comments are enabled. The present problem is about an article with existing comments. New comments do not become visible.
Curiously, when visiting the settings page, each time before I leave it, I am warned about unsaved changes, although I have saved the settings and was informed that the settings indeed were saved. No matter how many times I save the settings, the warning about unsaved changes keeps coming.

Hi there,
Can you please provide a link to the post or page where the comments are not appearing? I do see about 43 unapproved comments in your site’s dashboard. Those won’t appear until you approve them.

Of which settings page exactly are you speaking? Does this stop happening if you clear your browser cache and cookies?

The post where the recent comments do not appear is: https://messianic613.wordpress.com/2009/04/28/de-verwarring-over-de-omertelling-en-het-wekenfeest/
The 43 unapproved comments are known to me. Most of them are questions from readers and are planned to appear together with the answers to these questions.
The settings I’m speaking of are the “Settings” rubric of the side column on the left when logged in (i.e. the column where appear “Domains”, “WP Admin”, “People”, &c). This “Settings” page has a subsection “Discussion”, where the settings of the comments can be handled.

Thanks for the link. Do you know what the exact date is of the comments that aren’t appearing? And do you perhaps have a link to the approved comment in your dashboard? Just looking at the post I can’t really see if anything is missing if I don’t know what to look for.

That setting has nothing to do with whether or not comments appear on posts. All that controls is if comments are automatically on or off when you publish a new post, and how many comments display for a post at a time.
Can you please try enabling that option, setting a maximum number of comments to display at a time at, say 20 comments, and see if that makes a difference?

The date of these two comments is April 2, 2018. I don’t understand what you mean by “a link to the approved comment by your dashboard”.
The post’s discussion settings are: “Allow Comments” and “Allow Pingbacks & Trackbacks”. Both are on. There’s no maximum number of comments, at least I cannot find that option. There is an option “automatically close comments on articles older than x days”, but that option is off.

When viewing the comments in question from your dashboard, copy + paste the url form the address bar and paste it here.

Those are the links to the comments pages that lists ALL comments. We need the links to the specific comments, that you have approved, but that are not appearing on your site.
Go to https://messianic613.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php and look for the specific comment that is not appearing on your site. Click the Edit link for that comment. Reply with the URL for that page.

Here are the links to the two comments who don’t appear:

Okay. If you look at those links, you’ll see on the right it shows those comments were in reply to the user J.P De Groen, but it appears those comments are still in the moderation queue.
If you have comment threads enabled on the site, like on your site, and someone leaves a comment in reply to another comment, the first comment must be visible on the site before the reply to that comment can be visible. If you don’t approve the first comment, or you delete it, the reply to that comment cannot appear.
If you don’t want it to work like that you need to turn off comment threading. Then there will no longer be a Reply button on each individual comment, but comments will simply appear on the site in the order they are posted.
