Some small requests

I am so pleased with WordPress.com! What a great place to build a blog.

Just a few small things that I find unpleasant:

    1. In my blog, I try to set up spacing in certain ways. Like I will put in a ‘carriage return’ to make the look more appealing. But every time I do this, WordPress automatically removes this.

So I have tried to get around this by putting one character on the line. Like:

    a. Am I right, WordPress (or the editor) removes these ‘carriage returns’?
    b. Is it possible to change this so the carriage returns would not be removed? (there is no additional costs of paper or the like)
    c. Is there a better way to get around this?

    2. When building our pages, we are given a little box to work with – about ten lines high. Is it possible to make this bigger? like 30 or 40 lines? It would make things so much easier!

    3. It would be so nice if the editor helped with inserting tables (including shading, fonts, allignment, sizes, borders)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    1. There are several ways to get extra spacing between paragraphs using HTML as outlined here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/formatting-text-pt-1/ . The HTML standards for paragraph spacing are for one blank line between paragraphs. You can get no blank line by hitting shift/return-enter at the end of a paragraph and it will advance to the next line without a blank. Take a look at the blog post I reference.

    2. You can do one of two things: 1) drag the lower right hand corner to increase the height of the text area, or go to settings > writing and increase the height there as needed.

    3. It most definitely would be nice if they gave us the ability to build tables in the visual editor. The TinyMCE editor they use has the capability, but for whatever reason they have chosen to disable it.

    Dear Mr. TheSacredPath,

    Thank you! That’s great.

    Both:
#1 — Spacing between paragraphs and
#2 — Making the work area in the text area bigger

    you have helped me tremendously!

If only something could be done about #3 — working with tables.

    Thanks again.

One thing you might consider, if you are on Windows, is to get the free offline blog editor, Windows Live Writer. It does tables as well as a lot of other very useful things, and after you create a post in it, it will publish the post directly to your blog for you – including images.

Wow! You really made my day.

Now I see how to space things out on my blog.
And you showed my how to make the text area bigger.

And now I just saw a video which describes how I can turn my dashboard into one column; I can remove sections I am not interested in; I can minimize the left column:

And now I am trying to download this WindowsLiveWriter. It looks like building my blog will be much easier now. Boy was I getting a bit discouraged before.
