Some startup questions:
-
Can you only get rid of a junky suffix on a domain name (ex: blahblahdotworpress8866777dotcom) if you upgrade to the business model (most expensive) or will the domain name switch to just a dotcom (like “askaquestion.com”) once you’ve paid, even if it’s the cheap option?
Also, a friend of mine switched her .com to a .org on wordpress and says that free. Can you shed some light here for me? I’ve never used this site or written a proper blog, etc.
Best Regards,

Hi there,
Can you only get rid of a junky suffix on a domain name
Yes, you can register a custom domain name (.com, .net, .blog, etc.) by upgrading to any of our plans. As a bonus, the domain registration comes for free for the first year. You can read more here:

Switching to WordPress.org means that they went on using another hosting provider. You have to pay a provider to host your site on their servers. Although, there are a few providers out there that they have a free hosting plan, but it’s much like our free plan (no custom domain, etc.).
