Some words not showing in captions

Merry Christmas everybody! Can anyone tell me why some of the words of my captions are missing on my blog, even though they are correct in the Image widget caption? And how do I put a border around the image and caption? Thanks, Donna (sorry, Blitzen’s not here).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@donna, can you give us a link to where the border is not showing and the caption is missing words?

It’s the main image on my blog http;//grumpyoldgran.com Not sure how I do a link but if it;s any use, the picture URL is

The caption should read: Flying the flag for Spain on World Cup Final night with my friend and former Sunday People colleague John Moynihan

    What actually appears is:
Flying the flag for Spain on World Cup Final nigh
    Sunday People colleague John Moynihan

The reason the words are missing is that the sidebar is only 300px wide and you have an image and caption in there that are 478px wide and “overflow” in the sidebar is hidden. Delete the code you have now and put in this code.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Flying the flag for Spain on World Cup Final night with my friend and former Sunday People colleague John Moynihan"]<img class=" " title="Flying the flag for Spain" src="http://grumpyoldgran.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/donna-and-john-world-cup-final-night-in-guardamar-2010.jpg" alt="Flying the flag for Spain" width="300" />[/caption]

The reason the background and border are not showing up is that the “caption CSS” doesn’t work in the sidebar, only in posts and pages.

And actually, give this a try. I’ve included inline CSS and wrapped everything in a “div” and gave it the look of the standard captioned image in a post.

    <div style="text-align:center;background-color:#f8f8f4;border:1px solid #DDD;padding:5px;">[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="287" caption="Flying the flag for Spain on World Cup Final night with my friend and former Sunday<br />People colleague John Moynihan"]<img class=" " title="Flying the flag for Spain" src="http://grumpyoldgran.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/donna-and-john-world-cup-final-night-in-guardamar-2010.jpg" alt="Flying the flag for Spain" width="287" />[/caption]</div>

OK, third time is a charm. One browser was showing it all aligned and centered correctly, but another one was not, so forget the two above and use this one instead.

    <div style="width:298px;text-align:center;padding-top:5px;background-color:#f8f8f4;border:1px solid #DDD;">[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="287" caption="Flying the flag for Spain on World Cup Final night with my friend and former Sunday<br />People colleague John Moynihan"]<img class=" " title="Flying the flag for Spain" src="http://grumpyoldgran.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/donna-and-john-world-cup-final-night-in-guardamar-2010.jpg" alt="Flying the flag for Spain" width="287" />[/caption]</div>
