Somebody entered my password protected site and added a tagline, even with spelling errors

Just discovered a tagline that I did not write in my password ‘protected’ site, which only had a 3-word title, when I left it a few hours ago.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I don’t see any tagline displaying on your site. What exactly is the text and where is it showing?

I don’t see any evidence that someone else has accessed your site – all recent actions on your site was done from the same IP address, meaning it was done from your computer. If you share your computer with anyone, make sure you log out of your account and clear your browser settings whenever you work with your site.

The only way someone can “hack” your site otherwise is if they gained access to your email address or WordPress.com password, so if you suspect someone has accessed your site, please change the passwords on both those accounts immediately, and consider activating two-factor authentication as an extra layer of security.

    Hi Back!

    Your reply is much appreciated.

The theme only displays tag lines on the post page, but I deleted it after posting.

In response, my password is now very long.

The two-step process seems grueling, when still in the initial writing phase, before I market it.

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Happiness engineering much success.

  • Are you speaking of the tags themselves that appear on single posts? Those you can hide via the Content Options setting in the Customizer:

Nope, I’m referring to the subtitle.

In the theme I am using (Libretto), the tagline would only appear on top of the posts page, where all posts cumulatively display, but not on top of the static front page.

    Nevertheless, it’s all good.

    Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah, okay. That’s actually how the theme is designed. On the posts feed it shows a tagline, but not on pages. So I can confirm beyond all doubt that you weren’t hacked :)
