Somehow have two accounts under the same email address.

I have an administrator account that will only allow me to log in to with the username ‘janedoe1’ but will not allow me to log in with the email address associated with that account (redacted). This original account was created for me.
Somehow, in addition, I have a second account get created with the email (redacted) that has no access to the administrative site I need access to. I have tried changing the email on this account (@janedoe1) to something not (redacted), but it’s still seeing it that way (assuming that the accounts are being based on an email as a unique identifier?). Can anyone help me here? Somehow these two accounts are in conflict, and I’m not completely sure how to merge them.

I’m happy to get things sorted out. To start, the email address has been removed from the post. It’s best to keep private details private and not post them to public forums. The forums are indexed by search engines which makes that information available to a large number of people in a short time frame.
Every WordPress.com account requires a unique email address. Do you have the URL of the site that you are trying to work on? That would help me see what’s going on by locating the account.

Thanks Liz – (those emails were not real, as an FYI).
Anyway – the site gamefulpedagogy.com is where the correct email is. The other account with this username was ALSO associated with that same email. I changed it to a different email to see if I could get it to work, but when I log in with the correct email, it still takes me to this account. The account on gamefulpedagogy will allow me to log in with my username only.

janedoe1 is a WordPress.com account. However, gamefulpedagogy.com is self hosted WordPress.org site:
The account you have on gamefulpedagogy.com is not connected to WordPress.com, which is why it is possible to use a single email address for two accounts.
Logging in via https://wordpress.com with the same email address will not log you in to gamefulpedagogy.com — only WordPress.com.
If you are unable to login to the site directly from http://www.gamefulpedagogy.com/wp-admin, please contact your host for help as the login details are stored on their servers. You could also post to the WordPress.org support forums if you need more advice after speaking to them.
