someone called me about renewing domain name. When I go on site, my domain name has expired, but now

  Hello Jane –

  The domain name is registered under a different account than the one you are using right now. That’s why it isn’t listed as needing to be renewed in your dashboard.

  helper-brucea – the part that puzzles me is the phone call – since WordPress.COM does not do phone support that I am aware of. Might we have a more sophisticated overcharge racket by scammers calling about domains that are about to expire?

  I get email on a regular basis wanting $75.- to register my name with search engines and such for one of my domains. That is I think using the whois illegally. I ask my ISP about this and his take was that as long as the scammers did something for their $75.- the FTC would probably not take action.

  @auxclass – you’re right to be skeptical of the phone call. I know that in very limited cases there are times when calls are made from us, but usually only for business accounts, so I’m not sure what is happening here.

  Thank you both for your reply. According to WordPress.com, the account is expired, but I have not received notice of expiration. Neither does it show up my Hostgator c-panel. I really think I’m due to renew, I just don’t know where.

  Hello Jane – The domain is held under a different WordPress.com account than the one you are posting from right now, using a different email address.

  Renewal notifications were sent to that address.

  I used to have a yahoo account, but have not used it more than 2 years. I checked it and there are things that look like ads for womenoftheway2013.com. Which is not a domain name I use. Mine is womenoftheway2011.com.

  I do have an old 2011 email that confirms my domain registration:
